The Barevalue MCP server is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) interface for the Barevalue AI podcast editing API, used to submit and manage podcast editing orders in Claude Code, Cursor, and other MCP-compatible tools.
Purpose
The server lets AI agents hand raw podcast recordings to the Barevalue service for editing and get back the finished episode. Editing includes: fixing noise and volume, removing filler words and silent segments. For longer episodes, it also generates transcripts, show notes, and highlights.
Main capabilities
- Submit podcast editing orders: supports submitting recordings via link or file upload.
- Manage orders: check order status, get download links, get show notes and transcripts, submit feedback, or request revisions.
- Registration and authentication: agents can call barevalue_register to register with an email address and get a key, without needing an existing account.
- Free quota: 10 hours of free editing time per month, activated by clicking the link in the email after registering. Before clicking the link, you can edit for 30 minutes.
- Output quality: supports up to 320 kbps or lossless formats.
- Supported formats: MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, AAC, OGG, Opus, WMA, and AIFF.
- Limits: audio only, one file per order, one audio track, up to 60 minutes, maximum 750 MB. The free plan can only edit one order at a time, and at most 120 minutes every 5 hours. Uploaded files must be ordered within 2 hours.
How to use
There are two connection addresses:
- https://barevalue.com/mcp : open address, the agent registers itself and holds the key.
- https://barevalue.com/mcp/connect : requires logging in to a Barevalue account in the browser first, suitable for the Claude and ChatGPT connector interfaces.
For Claude Code, version 2.1.275 or higher is required. It can be installed via the plugin marketplace:
claude plugin marketplace add barevalue-ai/barevalue-mcp
claude plugin install barevalue@barevalue
The plugin adds a hosted server and a skill (located at skills/barevalue-podcast-editing), which guides the agent on the calling order and how to handle rejections.
For Cursor, you can use the install link: cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=barevalue&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2JhcmV2YWx1ZS5jb20vbWNwIn0=
For local files, you can use the npm package barevalue-mcp as a bridge. After installation, the barevalue_upload tool accepts a file path and sends the file. Node 18 or higher is required.
In the MCP client configuration, you can set the environment variable BAREVALUE_API_KEY (optional). If it is not set, the agent can call barevalue_register to get a key. If the email already has an account, registration will be rejected, and you need to create a key yourself in Settings > API Keys at barevalue.com.
Typical workflow:
- Upload the file (barevalue_upload)
- Place an editing order (barevalue_submit_url)
- Check the status about every minute (barevalue_status), usually completed in 5 to 15 minutes
- Get the download link, show notes, and transcript (barevalue_content)
- Submit feedback (barevalue_feedback) or request revisions (barevalue_request_revision)
Use cases
Suitable for podcast creators, content producers, AI agent developers, and others who want to quickly edit podcast episodes through automated tools, removing noise, filler words, and silent segments, and generating transcripts and show notes.
Limits
- Audio only, video not supported.
- One file per order, one audio track, up to 60 minutes, maximum 750 MB.
- The free plan can only edit one order at a time, at most 120 minutes every 5 hours.
- Uploaded files must be ordered within 2 hours.
- Node 18 or higher is required (when using the npm bridge).
- Some older tools (such as barevalue_submiT, webhook tools, manual editing) have been removed in version 1.4.0.
Version Update Summary
- 1.4.0: Tools now come from a hosted server; barevalue_upload uses a new upload flow and returns upload_id; BAREVALUE_API_KEY is optional; BAREVALUE_API_URL is no longer read.
- 1.4.1: Improved key validation and error handling; uploads are sent only to the Barevalue storage host; progress reporting and cancellation are supported; uploading the same file repeatedly reuses the upload.
- 1.4.2: Upload timeout and connection interruption handling; barevalue_submit_url supports idempotency keys; barevalue_upload lists the api_key parameter when there is no key.
- 1.4.3: The server rejects files longer than 60 minutes; the package name is updated to barevalue-ai/barevalue-mcp; the repository is both a Claude Code and Cursor plugin.
