About this tool

Purpose

Semantic API MCP Server is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server used to let Claude, ChatGPT, and other LLM agents search for and discover APIs through natural language. It relies on the Semantic API service, so users only need to describe the capability they want to achieve in natural language to obtain the corresponding endpoint details, parameters, authentication information, and code snippets.

Main Capabilities

  • Natural language API capability search: describe your needs in natural language and get back endpoint details, parameters, authentication information, and code snippets.
  • Automatic discovery of new APIs: automatically discover new APIs when needed.
  • Deep discovery by provider: perform deep discovery for a specific provider/API by name and intent.
  • Analyze APIs from documentation URLs: analyze and generate provider configurations based on API documentation URLs.

Usage

  • Can be run directly via uvx.
  • Requires registration at semanticapi.dev to obtain an API key.
  • Configure environment variables and add it to the Claude Desktop configuration (~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json); there is also a corresponding method if installed via pip.

Tool Descriptions

  • semantic_search: Search API capabilities using natural language. Parameters: query (string, required) - what you want to do, for example "send an email with Gmail"; auto_discover (boolean, optional, default true) - whether to automatically discover new APIs when needed. Example: "Find me an API to convert currencies in real-time".
  • semantic_discover: Perform deep discovery for a specific provider/API by name and intent. Parameters: provider_name (string, required) - API provider name, for example "stripe" "twilio"; user_intent (string, optional) - what you want to do with that API. Example: discover Stripe's capabilities for "process a refund".
  • semantic_discover_url: Analyze any API from a documentation URL. Parameters: url (string, required) - the URL of the API documentation. Example: analyze https://docs.example.com/api to generate a provider configuration.

Applicable Scenarios

Suitable for development and integration scenarios that require LLM agents to find, discover, and call APIs in natural language.

Limitations

Specific information such as fees, pricing, platform support scope, and effectiveness is not provided in the materials.
