mcp-pequerecetas is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for connecting chat clients to the Spanish home cooking website Pequerecetas. Pequerecetas contains thousands of recipes, including ingredients, steps, and photos, and classifies them by suitable diet, cooking equipment, occasion, and the age of the eater (from six months onward).
Purpose
The server lets users search for and read recipes on Pequerecetas through a chat client, and rescale ingredient amounts by number of servings. It can also list the values of the various taxonomies the site uses to browse recipes, page through the recipes under a taxonomy, and scale a Spanish-language ingredient list the user already has. It requires no API key and no account.
Main capabilities
- Search recipes: Search by dish or ingredient, returning rows with id, title, URL, and image link.
- Read a recipe: Read one page of a recipe by id, and rescale ingredient amounts when the number of servings is given. The returned content includes kind (recipe or collection), source_shape, title, URL, description, publication time, modification time, prep/cook/total minutes, categories, cuisine, keywords, author, rating, nutrition information, and images. Ingredient rows carry scaling (scaled, rounded, or unscaled) and is_equipment flags.
- List taxonomy values: Read the eight taxonomies dieta, edad, ingrediente, ocasion, recetas-de, tecnica, tipo-de-cocina, and tipo-plato, returning each taxonomy's name, value count, and value list.
- Browse a taxonomy: Page through the recipes under a taxonomy, returning rows of the same shape as search, with page_served and has_more.
- Scale an ingredient list: Scale a list of Spanish-language ingredient rows, either by specifying factor, or by specifying both from_servings and to_servings. Return each row's text, original, amount, amount_max, unit, and scaling, as well as scaled_count, rounded_count, and unscaled_count. No unit-system conversion is performed, and approximate measures (such as pizca) keep the amount given by the cook.
How to use
- One-click install: Works with Claude Desktop, Cursor, and any client that uses the standard configuration format. Requires Node 24 or later, and no environment variables need to be set. Use -i in the command to keep stdin open, and do not use -t. The container needs outbound HTTPS access to www.pequerecetas.com, and needs no volumes, ports, or credentials.
- Bundle install (no npm required): Download mcp-pequerecetas-1.1.0.mcpb from the latest release and open it; clients that support MCP bundles will install it automatically, with no npm or configuration file editing required. The bundle includes its dependencies, and nothing is downloaded during installation.
- Use as a library: The read layer can be published separately, with its own pacing, caching, and error vocabulary, and without the protocol attached. loadConfig and createLogger come from the same entry point. Each read returns { data, cached }.
When to use
- Search for recipes in Spanish, for example "Búscame una receta de paella de marisco."
- Read a recipe by number of servings, for example "Read me that recipe for eight people."
- Browse by cooking equipment, for example "What can I cook in an air fryer on this site?"
- Browse by age, for example "Show me the purées it files under six months."
- Scale an existing Spanish ingredient list, for example "Scale this Spanish ingredient list by three."
Limitations
- Pequerecetas is written in Spanish, and search matches the page's original text, so recipes need to be looked up in Spanish.
- Search only provides a single page of results; requesting a second page returns the first page, and total_available is always null.
- Taxonomies cannot be combined; the site does not provide a way to request two taxonomies at the same time.
- Taxonomy slugs are generated by the site, and manually constructed slugs mayReturn not_found.
- The minimum request interval is 3000 milliseconds; anything below that value will be rejected and the default value used, and this information will be output to stderr.
- No unit system conversion is performed.
- This server is not affiliated with Pequerecetas.
- No data is collected; it only reads www.pequerecetas.com, caches in memory by default for fifteen minutes, does not write to disk, and sends diagnostic information to stderr.
- The license is MIT.
