deadtime is an open-source tool designed to let developers earn while AI coding agents think. It displays content through a one-line status bar, mostly practical tips and occasionally disclosed relevant sponsor information. Users receive half of the revenue from each sponsored message shown, revenue tracking is done server-side, and billing occurs only after the message has been displayed continuously for 10 seconds (not on every script invocation).
Main capabilities:
- Display practical tips or sponsored messages in the status bar while AI coding agents work.
- Built on Claude Code's official statusLine setting, with no code changes required.
- Supports tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, and VS Code.
- Sponsor revenue is split 50/50 with developers and paid via PayPal.
- Does not read or send users' prompts, code, or conversation content.
- Free and open source.
How to use:
- Add one line of configuration to the Claude Code status bar.
- Can also be run without Node.
- After installation, Claude Code must be restarted for it to take effect.
- Live site:https://deadtime-server.bean-picker.workers.dev
- The client script statusline.py generates a random anonymous installation ID, requests one line of content from the server, and prints it.
- The server side is a Cloudflare Worker, responsible for the API (selecting a tip or sponsor by installation, enforcing the 2-in-5 sponsor cap, and billing only after 10 seconds of continuous display) as well as the public site (static assets).
- Public pages include install.html (for developers) and advertiser.html (for sponsors), with no build step required.
Use cases:
- Developers want to use waiting time to earn money while using AI coding agents.
- Sponsors want to show relevant ads to developers.
Limitations:
- The server only receives the random installation ID and the displayed line content; it does not involve prompts, code, or conversation content.
- Sponsor pages can reserve a spot, with no payment required for now; real data will be provided before actual charging.
- Other specific features, pricing details, platform support, etc. are not yet provided.
