About this tool

mvf1 is an automation control tool for MultiViewer, a video player used for watching racing events such as Formula 1 (F1). The project provides control capabilities in three forms: a Python package, a command-line interface, and an MCP server.

[Purpose and Positioning] The project is mainly used for unified control of multiple video players in MultiViewer, supporting operations such as showing all players, pausing all players, getting a specified player, switching a specified player's stream to a data channel, syncing all players to a specified player, syncing all players to the broadcast commentary stream, and syncing already opened players to live timing.

[Main Forms and Capabilities]

  1. Command-line interface (CLI): can control MultiViewer, suitable for integration with control interfaces such as StreamDeck.
  2. Python interface: provides a Pythonic programming control method, without the need to use GraphQL directly.
  3. MCP server: based on the Model Context Protocol, it can be used in AI agent frameworks via stdio, suitable for letting AI agents control race broadcasts. The documentation gives usage examples using PydanticAI. The corresponding operation name in the MCP client is player_sync_to_live_timing, and its sync logic uses the current live timing clock, the session start time, and the signed offset of each stream to position the matching opened players to the session of the first opened player.

[Installation and Usage] The latest version can be installed via pip. When used as an MCP server, configure it in the AI agent framework as a stdio MCP server.

[Development and Testing] After cloning the GitHub repository, install it in a virtual environment. The project uses tox for testing, which can be run in the project root directory.

[Applicable Scenarios] Suitable for scenarios that require programmatic or quick control of MultiViewer multi-view players, including integration with hardware control panels such as StreamDeck, batch operation of players via Python scripts, and letting AI agents participate in controlling race broadcast streams.

[Limitations and Notes] This package is not developed or maintained by MultiViewer or Formula 1 TV. The software is provided "as is", without any express or implied warranties. The project uses the MIT License.
