About this tool

Purpose: This is a remote server based on the Model Context Protocol that provides AI clients with read-only query capabilities for public Instagram data. It only reads public account data, does not log in as any account, and does not require binding the user's own Instagram account.

Main capabilities: It provides three tools. hasdata_instagram_profile_getInstagramProfile queries a single public profile by handle, returning id, username, fullName, biography, verified, followersCount, followsCount, profilePicUrl, fbid, bioLinks, and latestPosts; responses for public profiles include the latest twelve posts, so recent activity questions usually do not require a second call. hasdata_instagram_posts_getInstagramPosts paginates through a given account's public post feed, where each post includes id, shortcode, caption, type, productType, url, ownerUsername, ownerId, displayUrl, images, dimensions, hasdataLink, likesCount, commentsCount, timestamp, publishDate, as well as parsed hashtags and mentions arrays; carousel post members are in childPosts, and tagged accounts are in taggedUsers. hasdata_instagram_comments_getInstagramComments reads the comment thread of a single post or Reel along with the post itself. Private accounts return only private: true and a small amount of header information.

How to use: The server address is the same for all clients, using streamable HTTP and custom request headers. A HasData API key is required, which can be created for free in the console. Claude Desktop only loads local stdio servers from configuration, so it must be started via the @hasdata/instagram-mcp (npm) or hasdata-instagram-mcp (PyPI, runnable with uvx) launcherconnect to the remote server; clients that support OAuth can add the same URL as a connector without writing the key into the configuration. In the connection parameters, you can use ?apis=instagram to expose only these two Instagram tools, or add tiktok and youtube to extend it.

Use cases and limitations: Suitable for batch field extraction, cross-account comparison, and content research on public accounts you do not own. It cannot post, comment, reply, read direct messages, search topics or locations, and does not write any content; it does not cover the post feed of private accounts. Tool errors are not returned as HTTP error codes, but are indicated in the result with isError, such as an invalid key showing 401 Unauthorized, and an invalid handle returning 400 Bad Request. Each successful call consumes 10 credits, regardless of response size; the free tier provides 1,000 credits per month (about 100 calls), and paid plans start at $59 per month. Pagination is billed each time, the free tier has a concurrency of 1, and paid tiers range from 5 to 500. Data is scraped in real time, and each call has its own requestMetadata.id. There is currently no official general-purpose Instagram MCP server.
