GuruPDF MCP (gurupdf-mcp) is a free Model Context Protocol server, powered by GuruPDF, that lets AI agents directly perform PDF and file format conversion tasks.
Main purpose It connects file conversion capabilities to Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf, and other AI agents, enabling users to complete PDF compression, merging, splitting, editing, and conversion between more than 100 file formats, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG, PNG, HEIC, e-books, and more, using natural language instructions.

How to use Requires Node.js 18+ and a free GuruPDF API key. After registering at gurupdf.com, create a token in Profile → API tokens. Then use that key to add the server to the agent configuration, such as claude_desktop_config.json, ~/.cursor/mcp.json, .vscode/mcp.json, ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. No separate installation step is required; npx will automatically fetch it on first run. The server reads and writes local disk files, with no manual upload or download required.
Use cases Suitable for users who directly process local files in AI agent conversations, such as batch compressing PDFs, converting office documents, merging and splitting PDFs, encrypting sensitive files, converting webpages to PDF, and more.
Limitations and costs Tools consume a certain number of credits each time. Free accounts receive daily credits (refreshed every day), limited to 2 conversions per minute and 10 per day; when the quota is used up, the assistant will prompt, and you can wait for the daily refresh or top up/upgrade. Conversions run on GuruPDF servers, and files are automatically deleted within one hour.
