Purpose
Alpine is positioned to bring work documents, tasks, chat, and AI together into an app that can automatically organize them, so users do not have to switch back and forth between multiple "productivity" tools. The official description says its goal is to let users stop managing tools and spend their time on real work.
Main Capabilities
- Personalized feed: Provides a work feed similar to "recommended for you," showing updates from the people and projects you care about, and the official description says there is no need to join every channel.
- Search across content: It does more than keyword matching; the official description says results are ranked using relevance, recency, and a large language model (LLM).
- Integrated AI: Officially described as "an AI teammate right where you need it," and able to get full context from all your work content.
- Smart inbox: Puts important work at the top and only alerts you when you are truly needed.
- Task tracking: Supports quickly adding tasks, pressing Tab to turn a task into a subtask, and pasting a list to get started; private by default and shareable at any time; provides filtering and sorting, allows creating views that match your personal workflow, or using the officially preset "My tasks" view; the official description says it can easily handle more than 1 million tasks.
- Asynchronous collaboration: From channels to the feed, relevant posts proactively appear in your feed; every post is a complete thread, and new replies are silently added to the inbox; supports replying to selected specific text in a message, reducing the clutter caused by quoting an entire block of text.
- Design kit: The official description says the interface is simple, easy to use, and beautiful.
- Image gallery: Add photos to generate a gallery.
- Presentations: Focus on slide content without dragging text boxes; the official description says it generates artistic graphics so each document has a unique look without distracting from the content.
How to Use
Official materials do not provide complete product registration, login, or specific operation steps. The confirmed functional operations include: pressing Enter in a task to add a new task, pressing Tab to turn a task into a subtask, pasting a list to get started; selecting specific text in a message to reply; and creating views through filtering and sorting.
Applicable Scenarios
- Work scenarios where teams or individuals need to centralize documents, tasks, chat, and AI in one app.
- Asynchronous collaboration teams that want to reduce tool switching, channel joining, and notification distractions.
- Workflows that need to manage a large number of tasks (the official description says it can handle more than 1 million) and want to capture tasks quickly.
- Document work that needs to generate image galleries or presentations.
Limitations and Shutdown Notice
- Alpine is shutting down. The official announcement date is October 1, 2026, published by founder Caleb Meredith. Existing users need to export their data by noon New York time on October 31, 2026 (you can access settings or contact support@alpine.inc for assistance). After that, the service will be closed, and permanent deletion of customer data will begin. Lifetime access customers will receive a full refund without needing to apply proactively.
- Officially, Alpine's code has been open-sourced under the MIT License at github.com/alpine4work/alpine.
- Regarding the reason for the shutdown, the founder said that when Alpine was conceived and designed, collaboration was limited to person-to-person; the rise of AI agents has changed his view of productivity tools, but he has not yet experienced working at a large company with agents, so he is not sure whether redesigning today would lead to the right decisions.
- The official materials do not explain details such as pricing, billing model, platform support, or specific usage limits; this information has not yet been provided.
