Bluesky Context Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to enable MCP clients (such as Claude Desktop) to interact with the Bluesky social platform. Through this server, users can directly query profiles, search posts, get timelines, and more within an AI assistant.
Purpose
The main purpose of this server is to serve as a bridge between an AI assistant and Bluesky, enabling users to operate on Bluesky data through natural language instructions, such as getting profiles, viewing followers, searching posts, and more.
Main Capabilities
The server provides the following MCP tools:
- Profile and account tools: get profile information (display name, bio, follower count, etc.), get follow list, get followers list.
- Post and feed tools: get recent posts, get personalized timeline, get liked posts, search posts, search user profiles.
Usage
- Obtain Bluesky credentials: you need a Bluesky handle (username) and an App Password. The App Password must be created in the "Privacy and Security" section of Bluesky settings.
- Installation: you can install automatically via Smithery, or clone the repository and configure Claude Desktop to use the MCP server.
- Test the connection: after setup, you can ask Claude something like "Can you get my Bluesky profile?" to test it.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for users who want to conveniently manage or query Bluesky social data through an AI assistant, such as viewing feeds, searching posts on specific topics, analyzing followers, and more.
Limitations
- Requires a Bun or Node.js v22.6.0+ runtime environment.
- Requires a valid Bluesky account and App Password.
- Some tool parameters have default values and maximum limits (e.g., limit defaults to 50, maximum 100).
- Troubleshooting tips: for authentication failures, check credentials; if the server is unresponsive, ensure Bun is installed and the path is correct; for permission denied, ensure the server files have execute permissions.
