Academic Figure Generator is an AI-driven academic paper figure generation platform (personal local version), with the goal of turning the pain point of "having to draw figures after finishing the paper" into a three-step process: "Upload → Confirm → Download."
[Purpose] It is aimed at users who need to create scientific figures for academic papers. Through AI analysis of paper content, it automatically generates figure prompts and generates high-quality scientific figures. The project also comes with a companion Skill that can be used in mainstream AI coding assistants to obtain top-conference-level academic paper figure prompt generation capabilities.
[Main Capabilities]
- Paper upload and AI analysis: After uploading a paper, AI analyzes the content and generates a Prompt, generating high-quality scientific figures with one click.
- Quick generation mode: Directly input Prompt text, skip the paper upload step, and quickly generate figures.
- Companion Skill (academic-figure-prompt): An independent AI Coding Agent Skill, compatible with multiple AI coding assistants (Claude Code / Gemini CLI / Cursor, etc.), usable without deploying the full platform.
- The Skill can read and analyze paper content (PDF / LaTeX / Word).
- Provides 8 preset academic color schemes (Okabe-Ito, Blue monochrome, Teal+Amber, etc.), including colorblind-friendly options.
- Generates extremely detailed English prompts for use with AI image tools to generate top-conference-level professional figures.
- Covers multiple chart types: framework diagrams, network architecture diagrams, module detail diagrams, comparison/ablation diagrams, and data template diagrams.
[How to Use] Running the platform requires: Claude Code CLI installed and logged in on the local machine (Claude Agent SDK), and a NanoBanana / Gemini image generation API Key. You need to edit the .env file in the project root directory for configuration. On first startup, it will automatically create the SQLite database (backend/data/app.db) and data directory. The frontend development server will automatically proxy /api requests to localhost:8000. After the Skill is installed, it can be used by triggering it directly in the AI coding assistant conversation.
[Applicable Scenarios]
- After completing academic paper writing, users need to create scientific figures such as framework diagrams, network architecture diagrams, module detail diagrams, comparison/ablation diagrams, and data template diagrams.
- Users whowant to quickly obtain top-conference-level academic figure prompts with the help of AI coding assistants.
- Figures that require a colorblind-friendly color scheme or a specific academic color style.
[Limitations and Not Yet Provided] This project is a personal local version, and users must configure Claude Code CLI and the image generation API Key themselves. Specific information such as pricing, charging method, generation speed, image resolution, supported languages, and concurrency limits is not yet provided. The project is open source under the MIT License.
