Purpose
CyberChef API MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server used to interact with the CyberChef Server API. It allows users to choose any LLM or MCP client to use the tools and resources in CyberChef.
Main Capabilities
The server provides the following tools and resources:
- get_cyberchef_operations_categories: A resource that retrieves the latest CyberChef categories, used to provide context for selecting the correct operation.
- get_cyberchef_operation_by_category: A resource that retrieves the list of CyberChef operations under the selected category.
- bake_recipe: A tool that executes a recipe (list of operations) in sequence to derive results from input data.
- batch_bake_recipe: A tool that executes a recipe (list of operations) on a batch of input data to derive results.
- perform_magic_operation: A tool that executes CyberChef's magic operation, which is designed to automatically detect the encoding of data and the operations that can be used to decode it.
Usage
Start the server using the default stdio transport, and specify an environment variable pointing to the CyberChef API. In development mode, you can start the server and test it using the MCP inspector. The project also provides a client configuration command to generate a client configuration file, whose location depends on the operating system. After running the generation command, you can adjust the client configuration to include the environment variable for the CyberChef API URL. The prerequisites for the example use cases include: Claude desktop is installed, and there is a running CyberChef API instance or an available instance.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for scenarios that require calling CyberChef through an LLM/MCP client for data encoding and decoding, recipe execution, and other operations, such as combining CyberChef's capabilities to process data in clients such as Claude desktop.
