ExplainTXT is an AI assistant that runs in the web browser, designed to enhance the browsing experience. Users can highlight text on any webpage and have it instantly explained or summarized.
Main capabilities:
- Full-page summary: Press ⌘⇧E on any website to summarize the entire current page. The summary is displayed in a sidebar, first giving a one-sentence overview, then listing key points.
- Selection explanation: First highlight a passage of text, then press the shortcut, and the AI explains only the selected content and presents it near the reading position. Suitable for explaining unfamiliar terms, legal clauses, or difficult-to-understand passages.
- Follow-up questions: You can ask follow-up questions directly in the sidebar.
- Mouse operation: If you are not used to keyboard shortcuts, you can highlight text and select from the menu, or click the toolbar icon.
- Shortcut customization: In Chrome, ⌘⇧E can be rebound at any time.
How to use: After installing the browser extension, use the shortcut or selection action on any webpage. When no content is selected, the shortcut reads the entire page; when content is selected, only the selected part is explained.
Use cases:
- Quickly get key points when reading long reports, dense documents, or large numbers of comments.
- Get plain-language explanations when encountering unfamiliar terms, legal provisions, or complex passages.
- Avoid rereading the same page and get summaries and explanations directly at the reading position.
Limitations:
- The extension does not currently support mobile. The official page provides an email notification feature to notify users when mobile support launches.
