About this tool

calendar-mcp is a Deno monorepo project that provides access to macOS Calendar, primarily for LLM integration scenarios. The repository address is https://github.com/wyattjoh/calendar-mcp。

The project contains two packages:

  1. @wyattjoh/calendar: A core library for read-only access to the macOS Calendar database.
  2. @wyattjoh/calendar-mcp: A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for LLM integration.

Main capabilities (tools provided by the MCP server):

  • get-recent-events: Get recent past calendar events. Optional parameters limit (number of events, 1-100, default 10), includeRescheduled (whether to include original rescheduled events, default false).
  • get-upcoming-events: Get upcoming calendar events. Optional parameters are the same as above: limit and includeRescheduled.
  • get-events-by-date-range: Get events within a specified date range. Required parameters startDate (start date in ISO format, e.g. "2024-01-01"), endDate (end date in ISO format, e.g. "2024-01-31"); optional parameter includeRescheduled.
  • search-events: Search for events by title/summary. Required parameter query (search query); optional parameters limit (maximum number of results, 1-100, default 20), timeRange ("all", "past", or "future", default "all"), includeRescheduled.
  • get-todays-events: Get all events scheduled for today, with conflict detection support. Optional parameter includeRescheduled.
  • get-event-details: Get detailed information about a specific event, including location, URL, and recurrence rules. Required parameter eventId (the event's ROWID).

Usage:

  • Environment requirements: macOS (Calendar is only available on macOS), Deno 2.x or higher, read permission for ~/Library/Calendars/Calendar.sqlitedb.
  • When integrating with the Claude Desktop application, the configuration can be added to claude_desktop_config.json.
  • Running from source: after cloning the repository, enter the packages/calendar-mcp directory and execute deno run --allow-read --allow-env --allow-ffi --allow-sys mod.ts, or use the task deno task dev.

Limitations:

  • The server accesses the calendar database in read-only mode and cannot create, modify, or delete any events.
  • It only accesses local data.
  • It only supports macOS.
  • It uses a Deno monorepo structure, and root directory commands affect all packages.

More information about the response format and detailed event fields is not currently provided in the materials.
