bitcoin-mcp is developed by JamesANZ and is an MCP (Model Context Protocol)-based server for integrating real-time Bitcoin blockchain data into AI workflows. It retrieves data through the mempool.space public API, requires no API key, and works out of the box.
Main Capabilities
The server provides the following tools:
- Address tools: get-address-stats retrieves an address's funded/spent amounts and transaction count; get-address-transactions retrieves transaction history (including status, date, and fees); get-address-utxos retrieves current unspent outputs along with amounts and confirmation counts.
- Transaction tools: get-transaction retrieves complete transaction details (inputs, outputs, fees, confirmation counts); get-block retrieves block information (hash, timestamp, size, transaction count, fees). All amounts are displayed in BTC (converted from satoshis), and timestamps are in ISO format.
Usage
It can be installed with one click in Cursor, or installed manually: Node.js 18+ and npm are required. Add the configuration to claude_desktop_config.json (macOS path: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json; Windows path: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json), then restart Claude Desktop. For the specific installation commands and configuration contents, refer to the project repository.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for blockchain analysis, Bitcoin developers building applications, researchers analyzing transaction patterns, and traders monitoring addresses and fund flows.
Technical Details and Limitations
Built with Node.js, TypeScript, and the MCP SDK, and depends on @modelcontextprotocol/sdk, superagent, and zod. It supports macOS, Windows, and Linux. It uses mempool.space's public endpoints (such as GET /api/address/{address}, etc.). The project uses the MIT license.
