About this tool

dash-mcp-server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for interacting with the documentation browser Dash on macOS. It provides tools to access and search documentation in Dash, enabling MCP clients to conveniently query and manage docsets.

Main capabilities:

  • list_installed_docsets: List all installed docsets in Dash.
  • search_documentation: Search across docsets and code snippets.
  • load_documentation_page: Load a documentation page based on the load_url returned by search_documentation.
  • enable_docset_fts: Enable full-text search for a specific docset.

Usage: Dash 8 must be installed (available from https://blog.kapeli.com/dash-8 for download), and the system must be macOS, with Python 3.12 or later required. The server integrates with clients via the MCP protocol; for specific configuration and startup instructions, please refer to the project repository.

Use cases: Suitable for developers who, while writing code or consulting documentation, quickly search and load docsets in Dash through an MCP client, improving work efficiency.

Limitations: This project is a work in progress, supports only macOS, and requires Dash 8. No other platform support or further feature details are currently provided.
