About this tool

Purpose

crafty-mcp is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server used to connect to Crafty Controller 4, enabling AI assistants (such as Claude) to manage Minecraft servers through natural language. It exposes the full functionality of the Crafty Controller 4 API V2 as MCP tools, allowing users to complete server management tasks directly within an AI chat interface.

Main Capabilities

The MCP tools provided by this tool cover the following areas:

  • Crafty Host (System): System-level management operations.
  • Servers — CRUD and Information: Creation, reading, updating, deletion, and information queries of servers.
  • Servers — Runtime and Logs: Viewing server runtime status and logs.
  • Servers — Operations: Performing server operations such as start and stop.
  • Servers — Console: Sending console commands and managing players.
  • Servers — Files: Editing server files.
  • Servers — Backups: Configuring and managing backups.
  • Servers — Scheduled Tasks: Setting up scheduled tasks.
  • Servers — Webhooks: Managing webhooks.
  • User Management: Managing user accounts.

Specifically, this includes: starting and stopping servers, sending console commands, managing players, editing server files, configuring backups, setting up scheduled tasks, managing webhooks, and managing users.

Usage

  1. Add crafty-mcp to your MCP client configuration.

    • Claude Desktop: The configuration file is located on macOS at ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json or on Windows at %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json.
    • Cursor: The configuration file is located at .cursor/mcp.json.
  2. Obtain an API token (optional but recommended):

    • Open Crafty Controller in your browser.
    • Click on your username -> Profile.
    • Scroll to the API Keys section.
    • Click Generate Key.
    • Copy the token and use it as CRAFTY_API_TOKEN.
    • A superuser token has full access to all servers and operations.

CRAFTY_API_TOKEN is optional if you use the crafty_login tool for dynamic authentication, but it is recommended for most setups.

Use Cases

Suitable for users who need to manage Minecraft servers through natural language via an AI assistant (such as Claude), especially in scenarios where Crafty Controller 4 is used for server management. Server start/stop, command sending, file editing, backup configuration, scheduled tasks, and webhook management can be completed without leaving the AI chat.

Limitations

  • Requires a Crafty Controller 4 environment.
  • Requires configuring an MCP client.
  • If using an API token, a superuser token has full access, so security must be considered.
