Purpose outlook-local-mcp is a local MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for Microsoft Outlook, used to connect AI assistants such as Claude Desktop and Claude Code to Outlook, enabling the assistant to manage calendars, events, and email without leaving the conversation interface. Its functionality is implemented through the Microsoft Graph API.
Main capabilities
- Calendar and event management: can operate Outlook calendars and events.
- Email handling: can read and triage emails.
- Draft composition: can compose email drafts.
- Multi-account and token storage: supports multiple accounts and uses the OS keychain to store tokens.
- Tool invocation structure: all operations go through four aggregate domain tools, dispatched by operation verbs; there are also two optionally enabled tools, registered only when their corresponding variables are set—contacts via OUTLOOK_MCP_CONTACTS_ENABLED, and Teams via OUTLOOK_MCP_TEAMS_ENABLED. Calling operation: "help" on any domain lists its verbs and parameters.
Usage
- Go binary (recommended): deploy as a single binary. For the complete client configuration snippet for container deployment, see Container deployment; for keychain trade-offs and image variants, see Container runtime.
- Claude Desktop extension (no terminal required): download the .mcpb file from the latest release and install it in Claude Desktop via Settings > Extensions > Install from file.
- Claude Code or Cowork plugin: install the plugin using /plugin in the Claude directory; see quickstart for details.
- For LLM clients: llms.txt is provided as a machine-readable index.
Operation and privacy The server runs locally and sends data to Microsoft services using only the user's own credentials. The full privacy policy explains the scope of its access, retention, and contact.
Applicable scenarios Suitable for users who want to directly manage Outlook calendars, events, and email within an AI assistant such as Claude, especially in scenarios requiring local operation, multi-account support, and OS keychain token storage.
