Purpose
agent-toolkit is Stripe's official "one-stop" development resource library, with the goal of helping developers build AI-driven products and businesses. It focuses on connecting Stripe's billing infrastructure with LLMs and agent frameworks, so that AI applications can easily integrate payment, subscription, and usage-based billing capabilities.
Main Capabilities
The repository includes the following SDKs and tools:
- @stripe/ai-sdk: Used to integrate Stripe's billing infrastructure with Vercel's ai and @ai-sdk libraries.
- @stripe/token-meter: Used to integrate Stripe's billing infrastructure with the native SDKs of OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google Gemini, without relying on any framework.
- Model Context Protocol (MCP): Stripe hosts a remote MCP server at https://mcp.stripe.com , which supports secure MCP client access via OAuth (see the links in the repository for documentation). In addition, autonomous agents can also be built with the help of MCP.
- Agent Skills: Instruction sets that agents can use, helping agents adopt the latest best practices faster and more accurately when building on Stripe.
- Official Stripe plugins: If using a popular agent harness, the official recommendation is to install these plugins, which include additional agent tools and can update automatically.
How to Use
- Run the installation command provided in the official documentation in your project (the commands shown in the repository are retained on the project page).
- It can also be installed through the Cursor marketplace.
- For the new Agent Plugins standard, the installation method currently differs by client; you can point the client to the following package:
- Git URL:https://github.com/stripe/ai
- Subdirectory: providers/agent-plugins/plugin/ .
- Manual installation: manually installed skills will not update automatically; you can run
npx skills update -yto get the latest version.
