About this tool

Purpose

AddressIntel MCP server targets building permit and parcel buildability data scenarios on the SF Peninsula. It wraps the public AddressIntel API as a Model Context Protocol server, enabling Claude, ChatGPT, or other MCP-capable agents to query the relevant data directly.

Main capabilities

  • Permit search: retrieve issued building permits, for example querying demolition permits by area and time.
  • SB 9 parcel split eligibility: determine whether a property or parcel qualifies for an SB 9 split.
  • ADU feasibility: assess the feasibility of an accessory dwelling unit (ADU).
  • Redevelopment leads: discover potential redevelopment opportunities. The server is a thin client for the public AddressIntel API, so it inherits that API's authentication, rate limits, and plan caps. All tools are read-only GET requests; the server has no write capability whatsoever.

How to use

No installation step is needed; npx fetches it on demand. You can add the configuration to claude_desktop_config.json. To develop on the server itself, point the client to node /absolute/path/to/addressintel-mcp/dist/index.jsinstead of the npx command above. After restarting the client, you can ask questions such as "Which demolition permits were issued in Menlo Park this year?" or "Which Palo Alto properties qualify for SB 9?"

The tools are declared in the same table in src/index.ts , and each entry carries both its zod schema and the published JSON Schema; adding a new tool only requires adding one entry, and the two structures will not drift apart.

Use cases

Suitable for users who need to query building permits, SB 9 parcel split eligibility, ADU feasibility, and redevelopment leads on the SF Peninsula, in an MCP-capable agent environment.

Limitations

The server is read-only and cannot write data; its functionality and availability are constrained by the public AddressIntel API's authentication, rate limits, and plan caps. Other details are not provided at this time.
