About this tool

mcp-miro is a server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), designed to connect to the Miro whiteboard application. It allows AI assistants (such as Claude) to interact with Miro through the MCP protocol, enabling control of whiteboards.

Main capabilities include:

  • Read whiteboard content (including frames, sticky notes, etc.)
  • Create elements such as sticky notes and shapes
  • Perform batch operations
  • Retrieve whiteboard content
  • Support authentication via OAuth key, which can be passed through environment variables or the --token parameter

Usage:

  1. Install dependencies and build the server.
  2. Add the server configuration to the Claude Desktop configuration file (MacOS path: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json; Windows path: %APPDATA%/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json).
  3. Since MCP servers communicate via stdio, debugging can be challenging. It is recommended to use MCP Inspector for debugging. This tool is available through package scripts and provides a URL for browser access.
  4. In a development environment, it is recommended to refer to https://github.com/miroapp/api-clients/blob/041de24ebf7955432b447d887ede066ad4c7e2c7/packages/generator/spec.json。

This project also supports automatically installing MIRO Whiteboard Connector to Claude Desktop via Smithery. It can also be installed using mcp-get. Note: If using older Windows PowerShell, you may need to run Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process first.

Applicable scenarios:

  • Need to integrate Miro whiteboards with AI assistants to perform whiteboard operations through natural language instructions.
  • Batch create and read Miro whiteboard elements.
  • Use AI for automated processing of whiteboard content, for example, after taking photos of sticky notes, have Claude create the corresponding Miro elements.

Limitations:

  • Requires a valid OAuth key.
  • Depends on the MCP protocol and a compatible AI assistant (such as Claude Desktop).
  • Some installation steps may vary depending on the operating system.
