dolphindb-mcp-server is a server-side tool that connects the DolphinDB database to the MCP ecosystem, primarily used to let external callers inspect and query data in DolphinDB through the FastMCP interface. It is suitable for scenarios that require access to DolphinDB in an MCP front-end interface or within an integrated LLM toolchain.
Main Capabilities
After the service starts, it exposes the following function interfaces externally through FastMCP:
- list_dbs()
- list_tbs(dbName: str)
- query_table_diskusage(database: str, tableName: str)
- query_dolphindb(script: str)
Installation Methods
The official materials provide three installation methods:
- Method 1: Use uvx (recommended). Note: the uvx installation method requires building with uv.pack and uploading to Universe; if it has not yet been uploaded, refer to the uv documentation for packaging and publishing.
- Method 2: Install from PyPI.
- Method 3: Local build & installation.
Configuration and Environment Variables (Optional)
The DolphinDB connection information can be configured through a .env file or system environment variables: DDB_HOST = 127.0.0.1 DDB_PORT = 8848 DDB_USER = admin DDB_PASSWD = 123456
It can also be left unset, in which case the system will use default values.
Usage
The command to start the service is dolphindb-mcp-server. This command starts the MCP plugin service for external calls. After startup, it can be accessed through an MCP front-end interface or within an integrated LLM toolchain.
Applicable Scenarios and Limitations
This project is suitable for development scenarios that need to integrate DolphinDB database schema inspection and query capabilities into MCP or LLM toolchains. The materials do not provide specific performance data, pricing information, platform compatibility, or more detailed usage steps; other capabilities and limitations are not yet provided.
