Normativa-colombiana-MCP is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server designed to let any MCP-enabled AI assistant directly query Colombian regulations and case law, without opening a browser or interacting with forms. It connects six official sources: the Ministry of Public Function's Gestor Normativo (laws, decrees, resolutions, circulars, and public sector concepts, with subject queries and limiters), the Constitutional Court's Relatoría (approximately 44,839 rulings according to its index, including the latest rulings of the current year), the Ministry of Justice's SUIN-Juriscol (approximately 103,000 documents from 1844 to 2026, including laws, decrees, resolutions, circulars, technical regulations, and case law affecting the validity of regulations, and providing the only published validity status in the country), the Supreme Court (Tutelas, Civil, Labor, and Criminal Chamber rulings, each with cited regulations), the Council of State (contentious-administrative rulings, including legal questions, answers, and full text), and the DIAN Normograma (tax, customs, and foreign exchange regulations).
Main capabilities: once connected, it provides 28 tools, 5 prompts, and its own usage instructions, guiding users to choose tools according to the type of question, emphasizing always citing sources, and never asserting on its own that a regulation is valid. Tools include consultar_por_jerarquia (filter by hierarchy), resolver_cita (verify citations and link authenticity), analizar_conflicto (gather evidence of potential conflicts), cambios_desde (summarize regulatory changes), comparar_articulos (compare article texts), consultar_perfil (query by preconfigured profiles), and expediente (manage investigation records, disabled by default).
How to use: multiple installation options are supported. Option A: one-click installation of the .mcpb file in Claude Desktop, no Node or configuration file required. Option B: install via npm (recommended), requires Node 18+, use @latest to ensure the latest version. Option C: build from code, requires Node 22+. Option D: use Bun as an optional alternative. The FUENTES environment variable can be used to select or disable specific sources to save context.
Use cases: suitable for querying Colombian regulations, case law, validity status, comparing articles, analyzing potential conflicts, etc. For example, asking about the content of a specific law, finding recent case law, verifyingwhether a regulation is valid, comparing different regulatory provisions, etc.
Limitations: this is not legal advice, but a searcher that gives AI assistants access to official sources. Validity status comes only from SUIN and must be verified via links. Gestor search does not cover full text, only subject summaries, and uses OR to connect terms. Some sources (such as the Senate Civil Code) support only unencrypted HTTP, posing a security risk. The tools do not assert on their own that a regulation is valid, and for ambiguous citations they list candidates and request the year.
