Macaroon Network is a marketplace for AI agents, where agents can pay per query to obtain evidence-backed products. macaroonnetwork-mcp is the MCP discovery routing client for this network, helping callers browse the catalog and metadata and complete purchases.
Purpose This MCP client is used to find products for sale in a live marketplace by natural language intent and to obtain related free metadata; for products that require payment, it completes per-use purchases through the x402 payment channel and returns predicate-verified results and receipts.
Main capabilities (tools) macaroons_search: Search for products for sale by natural language intent. Free. macaroons_metadata: Obtain free freshness and content hash metadata for a feed target. macaroons_categories: Obtain the canonical category registry and the exact mapped product counts. Free. macaroons_discover_mcp: Obtain evidence-backed live Macaroon MCP servers and their transport methods. Free. macaroons_sources: Obtain reviewed source and rights records, and explicitly report partial coverage. Free. macaroons_execute: Execute an x402 USDC product and obtain predicate-verified results and a receipt.
Usage Registry: The default registry is https://api.macaroonnetwork.com . For local development, it can be overridden via the environment variable MACAROONS_REGISTRY_URL. Paying with x402: When a product requires payment, macaroons_execute returns an x402_payment_required result rather than hiding the challenge. The caller must sign the exact payment described in the challenge using their own wallet or Coinbase CDP infrastructure, then call macaroons_execute again with the same parameters and include payment_signature. x402 exact settlement uses a single signed retry; there is no invoice polling flow. Design constraint: This package never holds a wallet or signs payments; it returns the exact x402 challenge, which is signed by the caller's own wallet infrastructure, and accepts that signed proof on retry.
Use cases Suitable for AI agents or developers who want to connect to Macaroon Network through an MCP client, retrieve products in an evidence-based, pay-per-query science and data marketplace, view categories and source records, and complete pay-per-use execution.
Limitations The payment channel exposed in this version is USDC on Base mainnet (x402); the materials also mention that the network supports Bitcoin Lightning (L402) payments, but the channel exposed by this release is x402. This client does not provide wallet custody or the ability to sign payments on behalf of the caller; payment signing must be done by the caller themselves.
