About this tool

Purpose

Cardano MCP Server is used to let AI agents and automation systems interact with the Cardano blockchain at the wallet level through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). It is part of the Indigo AI Stack, and the official description says it can be used together with Indigo MCP to obtain full Cardano DeFi capabilities.

Main capabilities

The server is configured with 6 wallet tools and can support the following operations:

  • Submit signed transactions to the Cardano network (the output includes transactionHash and timestamp)
  • Get wallet addresses (the output is an addresses string array)
  • Read UTxOs (the output is a utxos string array, CBOR hex encoded)
  • Query token balances (ADA and native tokens)
  • Resolve ADAHandles (handle.me), for example returning ["$myhandle", "$another"]
  • Check stake delegation and claimable rewards

The official description says these wallet-aware tools are powered by Lucid Evolution.

Usage

Officially, two methods are provided: automatic setup and manual installation.

Automatic setup (recommended)

Run the interactive setup to automatically configure the MCP client. The process includes: asking which client is being used (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf), prompting for the Blockfrost Project ID, prompting for the wallet mnemonic (stored locally, not exposed to the LLM), and automatically updating the configuration file. The official description says it takes only 2 commands to get started, and the 6 wallet tools can be configured for the above clients.

Manual installation

It can be installed globally, or run directly with npx.

Environment variables

BLOCKFROST_PROJECT_ID must be provided, or KUPO_URL + OGMIOS_URL must be provided together.

Configuration locations for each client

  • Claude Desktop: on macOS, ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json; on Windows, %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
  • Claude Code (CLI): ~/.claude/settings.json or .claude/settings.json within the project
  • Cursor: global ~/.cursor/mcp.json or project-level .cursor/mcp.json
  • Windsurf: ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json

In addition, Cardano skills can be installed for OpenClaw. The official description says the skills are configured automatically, and after installation the Cardano wallet tools can be used immediately.

Using together with Indigo MCP

Officially, it is recommended to use Cardano MCP together with Indigo MCP to obtain full Cardano DeFi capabilities.

Typical invocation examples (officially provided)

  • Query wallet balance: Claude will use get_balances and return ADA and token holdings
  • Submit transaction: Claude will use submit_transaction to sign and submit a CBOR transaction, returning the transaction hash
  • Query staking rewards: Claude will use get_stake_delegation to display the staked pool and claimable rewards
  • Resolve ADAHandles: Claude will use get_adahandles to list all handle.me handles

Applicable scenarios

Suitable for scenarios that require AI agents or automation systems to perform Cardano wallet operations, such as querying balances and UTxOs, resolving ADAHandles, checking stake delegation and rewards, and submitting signed transactions; it can also be combined with Indigo MCP for Cardano DeFi-related workflows.

Security and limitations

Official description: the mnemonic is stored only locally and is used only for wallet operations, and will not be exposed to the LLM or external services; the mnemonic is used only by the local Lucid Evolution wallet instance; all transaction signing is completed locally before submission; private keys are not transmitted.

Officially, troubleshooting tips are also provided: for users using nvm (macOS/Linux), if Claude Desktop shows "server disconnectedyou need to use the full path, because Claude Desktop will not inherit the shell's nvm settings; you can use which npx to find the node path; if the tool fails after updating, you can clear the npm cache and then restart Claude Desktop.

Official risk statement: By using this MCP and related tools and technologies, you confirm and agree that: using decentralized finance (including MCP and the AI agent you authorize to manage digital assets) involves a variety of significant financial risks, including but not limited to financial losses caused by MCP design or instructions, impermanent loss, and changes in the prices of digital assets; you are fully responsible for all MCP operations and transactions; you are fully responsible for the security of your own mnemonic phrase, private keys, and environment configuration.

Other details such as platform support have not yet been provided.
