About this tool

Lofi Cities is a free web app that pairs animated pixel art city night scenes with infinite lofi music generated in real time in the browser. Users choose a city and let it run: each scene is a 480×270 pixel animation that loops seamlessly every four minutes, with its own weather, landmarks, and city sounds, while new lofi tracks are created on the fly.

Purpose: to provide a calm background atmosphere for studying, working, or relaxing.

Main capabilities:

  • City night pixel animations: offers many city scenes including Paris, Tokyo, New York, London, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Hong Kong, Sydney, San Francisco, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Dubai, Madrid, Rome, Prague, Munich, Vancouver, Seoul, Bangkok, Cape Town, Singapore, Mexico City, New Delhi, Cairo, Lisbon, Osaka, Berlin, Athens, Copenhagen, Seattle, Florence, Dublin, Miami, Budapest, Kyoto, Venice, and more.
  • Each scene includes unique weather, landmarks, and city sounds, such as rain on a Paris attic window, neon rain beside Tokyo Tower, snow on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York, fog on the Thames in London, and more.
  • Infinite lofi music is generated in real time in the browser.
  • Weather types include: drizzle, rain, thunderstorm, snow, autumn leaves, clear.
  • Scenes can be clicked to send interactions.

How to use:

  • No installation, no account, no pop-ups.
  • Open the website in a browser to use it, supporting computers, phones, and tablets.
  • JavaScript must be enabled, because interactive city scene drawing and music generation depend on JavaScript. If JavaScript is turned off, the scenes and audio cannot run; you need to allow the site to use JavaScript in browser settings or a script blocker, then reload the page.
  • You can request to add a city below the city selector or at the end of the grid.
  • There is a globe icon in the city selector to choose a city.

Use cases:

  • Background audio and visuals for studying, working, or relaxing.
  • Users who like pixel art and lofi music.

Limitations:

  • JavaScript must be enabled.
  • Each city scene is 480×270 pixels and loops every four minutes.
  • Other specific limitations are not yet provided.

Other information:

  • Each city is drawn by code written by an AI programming agent.
  • Each city has a billboard available for rent, and before a business rents it, a fictional local ad is displayed.
  • Official X account: @loficitiesapp.
  • The website updates with new cities and fixes, for example, on October 13, three cities were added: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Bali; on October 12, the request-a-city feature was added and the Boston scene was fixed.
