Baseline MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server developed by yamanoku to provide Baseline support status information for specific Web Platform APIs. It queries the support status of web features by calling the Web Platform Dashboard API and returns the results to MCP clients so they can collaborate with various AI models.
Purpose: To help developers or AI tools quickly understand the compatibility status of a Web API across major browsers, without having to manually consult multiple sources.
Main capabilities:
- Use the Web Platform Dashboard API for feature search.
- Provide the Baseline status of features, including widely (widely supported), newly (newly standardized), limited (limited support), and no_data (no data available).
- Provide browser implementation details, including version and implementation date.
- Support excluding specific browsers (chrome, edge, firefox, safari) during feature search.
- Integrate with various AI models via MCP.
Baseline status descriptions:
- widely: Widely supported web standard features that can be safely used in most browsers.
- newly: Newly standardized web features that major browsers have begun to support, but that are not yet widespread.
- limited: Web features with limited support, unavailable in some browsers or requiring a flag to be enabled.
- no_data: Web features not currently included in Baseline, for which browser support must be confirmed separately.
Usage: It is recommended to start the server with Deno and grant network access only to api.webstatus.dev. You can specify the @yamanoku/baseline-mcp-server package, or use the local baseline-mcp-server.ts file. If Deno is not installed, you can use the standalone binary.
In Claude Desktop, you need to add configuration in cline_mcp_settings.json; in Visual Studio Code, you need to add configuration in settings.json. You can also first build a Docker image, then run the Docker container in the MCP client configuration.
You can use deno compile to generate a single executable file that includes the Deno runtime, with network permission (api.webstatus.dev) embedded at compile time, so no Deno or additional permissions are required at runtime. You can also obtain compressed packages for each operating system (linux.zip / macos.zip / windows.zip) from GitHub Releases, download and extract them, grant execute permission, and verify integrity using the bundled SHA256SUMS. The artifacts are output to the dist/ directory.
Applicable scenarios: Developers need to quickly check browser compatibility of Web APIs; AI coding assistants need to obtain real-time Baseline data to assist decision-making.
Limitations: The server's functionality depends on the Web Platform Dashboard API, and network permission is limited to api.webstatus.dev. More information such as fees, pricing, and platforms is not currently provided.
