IsThisAPhoto

IsThisAPhoto is a free online AI image detection tool. Users upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image (maximum 4 MB) and receive a judgment within seconds as to whether the image is AI-generated. The tool analyzes pixel patterns via Sightengine's genai model, returning an AI probability score from 0 to 100%, along with a plain-English explanation of what the score means and the suspicious signals. When the score falls in the intermediate uncertain range, the result is shown as "Inconclusive" rather than forcing a true or false conclusion. The tool requires no registration and has no paywall; currently, each IP address can run 10 free checks per UTC day. Images are used only for that analysis and are not saved to files or a database.

About this tool

IsThisAPhoto is an online detection tool for determining whether a photo was generated by AI. Users can upload images and get detection results for free without registering an account.

Purpose

This tool is aimed at ordinary users who need to quickly verify the authenticity of an image. Common use cases include: judging on social or dating platforms whether another person's photo was generated by AI; getting a second opinion before sharing a viral image or news photo; identifying AI-generated product images or forged damage evidence on secondhand trading platforms; and performing an initial screening when someone provides a photo as proof of identity or ownership.

Main Capabilities

After an image is uploaded, the tool displays the AI probability score (0 to 100%) returned by Sightengine's genai model, along with a cautious judgment conclusion and a plain-English explanation of what each available signal means. When the score falls in the intermediate uncertain range, the tool gives an "Inconclusive" conclusion rather than forcing a determination of real or AI-generated. The model analyzes visual patterns in image pixels and does not rely on file metadata. Manufacturer-specific scores are shown only when Sightengine returns them, and the tool does not guess the specific generative model name. According to Sightengine's documentation, its AI image detection covers a variety of generators, such as DALL-E, Firefly, Flux, GPT image generation, Grok Imagine, Higgsfield, Ideogram, Imagen, Kling, Midjourney, Nano Banana, Qwen, Recraft, Reve, Seedream, Stable Diffusion, StyleGAN, Z-image, and Wan, but the tool itself has not independently measured the accuracy of each generator, nor does it promise to identify which tool generated the image. Detection results do not include heatmaps or C2PA provenance assessment.

How to Use

Users can upload JPG, PNG, or WebP images by drag-and-drop or selection, with a maximum file size of 4 MB, or paste an image from the clipboard. The browser first previews the selected image, and after confirmation it is sent via the tool's server function to Sightengine for analysis. IsThisAPhoto does not save images to files or a database; they are kept in memory only during the request and released after the request is complete. Sightengine processes images in accordance withits privacy policy and terms of service; its public policy does not state a fixed deletion time.

Usage Limits

The tool does not detect video or audio, and only accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images, with files not exceeding 4 MB. Currently, 10 checks are allowed per IP address per UTC calendar day; this limit is enforced by the server, clearing browser data will not reset the count, and after reaching the limit the page gives a clear notice with the option to retry after the daily reset. Regarding the tool's accuracy, the specific detection performance of each generator, and the full coverage of generator-specific scores, independently verified results are not currently available.
