BugHerd MCP Server is a Model Context Protocol (MCP)-based server used to integrate the BugHerd bug tracking tool with AI assistants such as Claude. This project is an unofficial, community-maintained open-source project, licensed under MIT, runs locally, and data does not leave the user's machine.
Purpose: Through the MCP protocol, it enables AI assistants to directly operate BugHerd's bug and feedback management features, such as listing projects, filtering tasks, viewing task details, reading and creating comments, etc.
Main capabilities: The server covers BugHerd API v2 and provides 38 tools, covering the following resource types:
- Organizations: Get account details
- Users: List members, guests, user tasks, and projects
- Projects: CRUD operations, manage members and guests
- Tasks: Full task management, including feedback, archiving, and task board views
- Columns: Custom kanban management
- Comments: Read and create comments
- Attachments: Manage file attachments
- Webhooks: Configure event notifications
Usage:
- Prerequisites: Node.js 18+ or Bun; a BugHerd account with API access; a BugHerd API key (obtained from Settings > General Settings).
- Installation: Clone the repository, install dependencies, build the server, set the API key.
- Configuration: Add to the MCP client configuration or MCP desktop app configuration.
- Development and testing: Supports running in development mode and can be tested with MCP Inspector.
- Production build: Use after building for the production environment.
Use cases: Suitable for teams or individuals who need to directly manage BugHerd bugs and feedback in AI assistants, such as quickly querying project tasks, filtering tasks by status or priority, and viewing comments through Claude.
Limitations:
- This server is an unofficial community project, not an official hosted server from BugHerd. For the official closed-source hosted server, see macropodhq/bugherd-mcp.
- The BugHerd API has rate limits: an average of 60 requests per minute, with up to 10 rapid consecutive requests. The server gracefully handles rate limit errors.
- Requires a BugHerd account and API key, and the account must have API access permissions.
- The runtime environment requires Node.js 18+ or Bun.
