DroidMind is a powerful bridge between AI assistants and Android devices. By implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), it allows AI models to interact directly with Android devices in a secure, structured way via ADB. When used in agentic coding workflows, assistants can bring devices directly into the build and debug loop.
Purpose
Help AI assistants control, debug, and analyze Android devices through natural language.
Key Capabilities
- Manage devices: connect via USB/TCP-IP, list devices, view properties, reboot.
- Analyze the system: access logs (logcat, ANR, crashes, battery), capture bug reports, dump heaps.
- Handle files: browse, read, write, push, pull, delete, and manage device files/directories.
- Control apps: install, uninstall, launch, stop, clear data, inspect app details (manifest, permissions, activities).
- Automate UI: perform taps, swipes, text input, and key presses.
- Execute Shell commands: run ADB shell commands within a security-focused framework.
- Safe operations: includes command validation, risk assessment, and sanitization.
- Seamless integration: can connect with any MCP-compatible client (such as Claude, Cursor, Cline, etc.).
How to Use
- Requirements: Python 3.13 (3.14 not yet supported), uv (Python package manager), an Android device with USB debugging enabled, ADB installed and added to the system PATH.
- Quick IDE integration (zero installation, using uvx): can be configured in an MCP-compatible IDE (such as Cursor) to run DroidMind directly from the GitHub repository without manual cloning or installation. Add the configuration to the IDE's MCP configuration (for example, Cursor's .cursor/mcp.json), and the IDE will start DroidMind on demand.
- Run after manual installation:
- Stdio (for direct terminal interaction or certain IDE setups): droidmind --transport stdio
- SSE (for web UIs or AI assistants such as Claude Desktop): droidmind --transport sse, which typically starts the server at sse://localhost:4256/sse.
- Docker: refer to the Docker guide to run it in a container, which is suitable for deployment and dependency isolation.
Use Cases
- Have an AI assistant list all connected Android devices and their properties.
- Take a screenshot on a Pixel.
- Install an APK on emulator-5554.
- View recent crash logs for a specified device serial number.
- Tap the "Next" button on the current screen.
Limitations and Security
DroidMind has a built-in security framework, including command validation and sanitization, risk assessment classification, protected path operations, and comprehensive logging. High-risk operations are flagged, and critical operations are blocked by default.
