Purpose Ambi is an ambient intelligence AI system from Mistlabs Ltd. designed to "act without being asked." CEO Peter Mo says most AI platforms are built to complete tasks, while Mistlabs wants to explore what becomes possible when software can "understand, reason, and act in real time." Ambi's actions sometimes happen "before the user even has to ask."
Key capabilities Ambi learns about a user by listening to their conversations on iPhone, Apple Watch, or Mac, and Mistlabs says the software's judgment about how the user works becomes more precise over time. That information is not locked to a single device, and whatever Ambi is working on follows the user from Mac to phone or watch.
Users can set up Routines to hand a repetitive job to multiple agents at once, with those agents working from everything Ambi already knows about that user. One example the company gives: someone attends a meeting about competitors, and agents fact-check what is being said as the discussion unfolds; before anyone leaves the room, Ambi may have already compared rival products and drafted a proposal on the user's MacBook. After the meeting, the agents keep working, flagging missing information or new developments as the project moves forward.
Longer term, Mistlabs wants Ambi agents to be able to negotiate with one another. That capability is expected in the coming months, for situations where two people using the software attend the same meeting: each agent draws on what it knows about its own user, together identifying where their priorities overlap and where a possible sticking point is emerging. The agents then aim to negotiate an outcome both sides can accept, all while the conversation is still going. Users can set permissions to govern what their agents can do.
Funding and hardware plans The $26 million raised before launch will go toward a standalone wearable Mistlabs is developing to give Ambi more context about the user and their surroundings. Mo says the hardware will let the system expand over time to "entirely new device types." Luminous Ventures and Huaqin Technology Co. Ltd. led the round for the San Francisco company. Pre-A round financing. Shanghai-based Huaqin designs and manufactures smart devices for other brands.
How to use and obtain Ambi is now available on Mac and Apple devices supporting iOS 18, with audio storage disabled by default. Those interested in the wearable device can join a waitlist, and Mistlabs says the device will launch later this year.
Limitations Beyond the above information, more details about Ambi's specific pricing, subscription plans, platform support scope (other than Mac and iOS 18 devices), supported conversation languages, privacy data handling methods, as well as the wearable device's specific specifications and release time, are not yet available in the materials.
