About this tool

bldbl-mcp is the official MCP (Model Context Protocol) client for Buildable. Buildable (bldbl.dev) is an AI-driven development platform, officially described as aiming to "make any project buildable." Through this package, AI assistants (Claude, GPT, etc.) can interact directly with Buildable projects according to the MCP standard, obtain project context, manage tasks, track progress, and communicate with human developers.

Purpose

This tool is aimed at development teams and individuals who want AI assistants to participate in the actual software project process. AI assistants can read project plans and task details, autonomously start tasks, report progress, complete tasks, and create discussions to ask humans questions when blocked or when a decision is needed, thereby enabling human-AI collaborative development on the Buildable platform.

Main capabilities

According to the repository materials, after configuration, AI assistants can use the following tools: get_project_context: understand the entire project structure (including plans, tasks, and recent activity); get_next_task: find the next task to do based on dependencies and priority; start_task: start working on a specific task, with optional method and time estimate; update_progress: report detailed progress on the current task; complete_task: mark a task as complete with detailed notes; create_discussion: create a discussion/question when human input is needed; health_check: check whether the connection to Buildable is working properly. In addition, the client class BuildPlannerMCPClient supports configuration parameters such as apiUrl, apiKey, projectId, aiAssistantId, timeout, retryAttempts, retryDelay, and has built-in error handling and retry mechanisms.

How to use

Installation: @bldbl/mcp can be automatically installed to Claude Desktop via Smithery, or the MCP server can be installed manually. Get an API Key: create an account at bldbl.dev, create or select a project, and go to Project Settings → AI Assistants → Generate API Key. The key starts with bp_. ConfigurationClaude Desktop: write the configuration to ~/.config/claude/claude_desktop_config.json; only the API URL is needed for automatic detection (minimal configuration). Configure Cursor: in the project Integrations, click "Add to Cursor" for one-click configuration, or manually write to the Cursor AI configuration file. Environment variables: it is recommended to set 3 environment variables to correctly track the AI assistant's work: BUILDABLE_API_URL, BUILDABLE_API_KEY, BUILDABLE_PROJECT_ID, BUILDABLE_AI_ASSISTANT_ID (the materials say 3 are recommended, used to track which AI assistant did what in the project). Multiple projects: different MCP server configurations can be created for different Buildable projects. Direct run: the MCP server can also be run directly, and the CLI and testing tools can be used (testing tools are provided in the package).

Applicable scenarios

It is suitable for teams using the Buildable platform to manage project plans and tasks who want AI assistants such as Claude and GPT to directly participate in task retrieval, execution, progress reporting, completion, and discussion collaboration; it is also suitable for projects that need to connect AI assistants to the development workflow and track status.

Limitations and notes

This software is proprietary and confidential commercial software, and requires registering an account at bldbl.dev and generating an API Key before use; before use, you need to prepare the Buildable API URL, API Key, and project ID yourself. The materials do not provide specific pricing, free quota, supported operating system details, or the range of task types. The tech stack includes TypeScript, MCP, Node.js, and REST API.
