About this tool

Purpose

This tool is designed to provide Claude Desktop users with real-time query capabilities for cryptocurrency market data, implemented by integrating the CoinGecko API. Users can ask about cryptocurrency-related information directly in Claude Desktop, and the tool will call the corresponding function to return the data.

Main Capabilities

The tool provides the following specific functions:

  • get_crypto_price: Get real-time cryptocurrency price information.
  • get_crypto_market_data: Get detailed market information for a certain cryptocurrency.
  • get_crypto_historical_data: Get historical price data for a cryptocurrency.
  • search_crypto: Search for cryptocurrencies.
  • get_trending_crypto: Get trending cryptocurrencies.
  • get_global_crypto_data: Get global cryptocurrency market data.

All tools include error handling, and will return an error message when an error occurs.

How to Use

  1. Make sure Python 3.10 or a later version is installed.
  2. Install the dependencies.
  3. Add the corresponding configuration in the MCP configuration of Claude Desktop, replacing the path with the full path to the main.py file.
  4. Run the server.
  5. Keep the server running while using Claude Desktop.

Users can ask Claude Desktop questions such as:

  • "What's the current price of Bitcoin?"
  • "Show me detailed market data for Ethereum"
  • "What's the price history of Dogecoin for the last 30 days?"
  • "Search for cryptocurrencies related to 'sol'"
  • "Which cryptocurrencies are trending today?"
  • "What's the total cryptocurrency market capitalization right now?"

Applicable Scenarios

Suitable for users who need to quickly obtain cryptocurrency market data, search for coins, or track trending coins in Claude Desktop.

Limitations

This tool uses the free CoinGecko API, which has rate limits, and frequent requests may be throttled by the API. If the MCP server does not work in Claude Desktop, you can check whether the server is running, whether the configuration path is correct and is an absolute path, whether Python 3.10+ is in the system PATH, whether the dependencies are installed, try restarting Claude Desktop, and check the log error messages.
