About this tool

Hourtick is a task, chat, and time tracking platform that puts human teams and AI agents in the same workflow, mainly aimed at hourly-billing teams such as agencies, consultants, accountants, law firms, freelancers, and remote teams.

Purpose and Positioning Its core goal is to let "people" and "AI agents" work together as one team, and to attribute every hour as well as AI costs to the correct task. The official emphasis is that everyone on the team (whether 3 people or 300) is included in the free plan, with no per-seat charge.

Main Capabilities

  1. AI agents: You can hand off work to AI agents, which will break down tasks on their own, ask questions when they run into problems, and record their own time so they can be reported and invoiced like any other member. Supports connecting any AI that supports MCP.
  2. Task management: Tasks are presented in a board or list, with support for multiple assignees, due dates, priorities, tags, checklists, chat, and files with previews. After selecting a task in "What are you working on?", every minute is counted toward that task, making it easy to see the true cost of each task.
  3. Team chat: Provides channels, direct messages, and threads, side by side with tasks and timers. Typing # inserts task, project, client, or running timer cards in real time, and you can also see who is online and what they are doing. You can @mention AI agents in chat, watch them work, and they will ask questions when they get stuck and record time like anyone else.
  4. Timer: Located in the Mac menu bar, with elapsed time shown next to the clock, and you can use ⌃⌥S to start, stop, switch, or edit from anywhere. Supports idle detection, backfilling forgotten time, and prioritizing recent projects; each person has only one timer at a time, enforced by the database.
  5. Timesheets and approvals: The timer automatically fills in the weekly timesheet, and the rest can be entered directly in the grid. Submit on Friday, approve on Monday, and lock after approval, consistent across devices; supports editing the weekly grid and copying last week's rows.
  6. Reports and invoicing: Count hours by client, project, task type, or person, showing billable ratio, billable amount, and unbilled time. You can send invoices through your own Stripe account, clients pay online, and Hourtick charges a 0% fee (only Stripe's own fees apply), with invoiced time locked.
  7. Reliability: When offline, every start, stop, and edit is queued locally, then replayed in order once the connection is restored. The server applies each change exactly once, and all devices end up in a consistent final state, with no two running timers or timeGap.
  8. API and MCP: Provides a REST API (including an interactive testing ground and OpenAPI specification) as well as an MCP server, so assistants such as Claude and Cursor can start timers, process tasks, post in chats, and read reports. For example, you can ask it to "log 1.5 hours for yesterday's sprint review to Mobile app," or ask "which clients this month have billable but unbilled time."

How to use Start from the menu bar, or hand tasks off to an agent. Choose a recent project to start timing; submission and approval are both one click. You can connect your own Stripe for invoicing, or mark as already invoiced.

Use cases Prepaid budgets and billable ratios for agencies, fixed-fee project profitability tracking for accountants, offline and cross-time-zone safety for consultants, notes/approval/locked billing for lawyers, a permanently free plan for freelancers, and remote teams that need visibility but do not want to be monitored.

Pricing Free plan: unlimited people, includes all features, 500 MB of usage per month. Pro: $29 per month, includes 5 GB, with $10 charged per additional GB; no per-seat pricing, no feature tiers.

Limitations and notes Hourtick does not take screenshots, record the screen, or log apps, websites, or keystrokes; members time themselves. It works offline, but import functionality is not yet available, and when new users sign up, starting projects and task types are created. The competitor prices shown officially are information from the public pricing pages of each vendor as of September 2026, and prices may change.
