dnd-oracle is an MCP server for the D&D 5e SRD (System Reference Document), designed to provide real-data-based query and analysis tools for Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition.
Main Purpose
This project is aimed at users who need to quickly retrieve D&D 5e rules content, such as players, Dungeon Masters (DMs), or developers. By integrating into supported clients via the MCP protocol, it makes it easy to search, browse, and analyze SRD content.
Main Capabilities
- Monster search: find information among 334 monsters.
- Spell lookup: retrieve detailed information on 319 spells.
- Encounter building: assist in designing combat encounters.
- Character tools: provide character-related analysis features.
- In addition, it can also access data such as equipment, magic items, classes, races, conditions, rules sections, and rollable tables. All 20 tools (14 of which are analytical) run on a built-in SQLite database, and the data is real SRD content, requiring no internet connection, thereby avoiding the risk of AI-generated inaccurate information (hallucinations).
Data Scale
The database contains 1,207 entities, specifically:
- 334 monsters
- 319 spells
- 237 pieces of equipment
- 239 magic items
- 12 classes
- 9 races
- 15 conditions
- 33 rules sections
- 9 rollable tables
How to Use
The project is provided as an MCP server and needs to be added to the configuration file of the Claude desktop client, at the path:
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
For the specific configuration content, refer to the project documentation.
Use Cases
- Quickly look up rules such as monsters, spells, and equipment during a tabletop session.
- Build balanced combat encounters.
- Analyze character builds or party composition.
- Scenarios that require offline access to SRD data.
Limitations
- The data scope is limited to the D&D 5e SRD and does not include non-SRD content.
- Before use, the MCP client must be configured according to the instructions.
