About this tool

NOVAI MCP Server is a read-only Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that helps any MCP-capable agent query live on-chain data through the public JSON-RPC endpoint of the NOVAI chain. NOVAI is an AI-native Layer 1 blockchain using chained BFT consensus, and this server acts as a thin typed bridge that lets agents read on-chain information through the standard MCP tool discovery mechanism without writing any SDK code.

Key capabilities: The server exposes only query tools, each corresponding to a single read method on the public endpoint. Queryable content includes blocks, transactions, AI entities, on-chain signals, oracle anchors, and memory objects. All hashes and IDs are 64 hexadecimal characters (32 bytes, no 0x prefix); all heights are non-negative integers. Every input is validated before any network call is made, and chain errors and transport failures are returned as clean tool errors without stack traces.

Usage: Requires Node.js 18 or higher. It can be run directly via npx, or installed and then run as a binary. The server uses the MCP protocol over stdio; simply point your MCP client to the corresponding command. The environment variable NOVAI_RPC_URL can be used to override the JSON-RPC endpoint, with the default being the public NOVAI URL:https://rpc.novai.network . No other configuration, keys, or authentication are required, because the public endpoint is open and read-only.

Limitations: This is version 0 and is read-only by design. The package never holds private keys, never signs, and never submits transactions; write methods exposed on-chain are intentionally not wired in. Note that the endpoint retains only a limited-height window of recent blocks, so heights far below the current chain tip may return null even if they were once valid blocks; lookup by hash works for any block the node still indexes. It is recommended to call novai_get_chain_status first to learn the current chain tip height. npm test runs offline unit and validation tests; tests against the live endpoint are also possible, as is an end-to-end stdio check (which starts the built server and drives it with a real MCP client).
