About this tool

CryptoTaxEdge MCP Server is a US tax classification tool for on-chain transactions, provided as an MCP server. Users submit a transaction hash and receive standard event categories, US tax treatment with cited authority, calibrated confidence scores, and a human-review flag explicitly marked for uncertain records, along with leg-by-leg details and counterparty identification. The service covers more than 80 chains, including Ethereum, major L2s, and Solana.

In terms of main capabilities, every classification result comes with reliability information: ordinary transfers, authorizations, spam transactions, failed and unsupported transactions, as well as every duplicate submission, all receive complete identification results for free. Batch classification is supported, with up to 100 transactions per call. In addition to the MCP protocol, the same engine is also available through a regular REST interface.

In terms of usage, the service is a remote MCP server and requires no local installation or operation. The endpoint is https://mcp.cryptotaxedge.com/ , using streaming HTTP and JSON-RPC 2.0. Authentication is via Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY . A free developer key can be obtained self-service under Settings → API Keys at dashboard.cryptotaxedge.com, with no credit card required. Documentation is at dashboard.cryptotaxedge.com/api , and the site is cryptotaxedge.com .

The project also provides a registry manifest server.json , which has been published to the official MCP Registry under the identifier io.github.sturs49/cryptotaxedge , and is listed in Glama. The repository includes a Glama local container: the image is a small Node proxy that does not contain the classification engine, and directory methods are forwarded to https://mcp.cryptotaxedge.com/ . It listens on port 8080, which can be overridden with PORT, and binds to 0.0.0.0; the paths are POST / and POST /mcp (streaming HTTP / JSON-RPC); the health check is GET / or GET /health. initialize, tools/list, and ping do not require an API key; tools/call returns 401 when CTE_API_KEY is not set or there is no Authorization: Bearer … in the request headers. If Glama generates a Dockerfile and wraps CMD with mcp-proxy -- , the managed CMD parameters must be set to ["node", "server.mjs", "--stdio"] ; the same process also accepts stdio when started without --stdio.

Regarding classification standards and provenance, the category vocabulary and treatment semantics returned by the server belong to the CryptoTaxEdge Classification Standard, an open, versioned schema containing examples and tax-position caveats, licensed under CC BY 4.0. The standard and the labeled benchmark corpus for H1 2026 (388 public transaction hashes) are archived at DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21911546 and mirrored as the Hugging Face dataset CryptoTaxEdge/crypto-tax-classification-2026h1. The methodology and benchmark description are available at cryptotaxedge.com/research ; verbatim request/response records are replayed nightly against the live engine at sturs49/cryptotaxedge-examples. The repository is licensed under MIT. Classification results are for reference only and do not constitute tax advice; consult a qualified tax professional to verify before filing.
