crypto-funds-mcp is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server designed to provide AI agents with structured, real-time cryptocurrency investment fund data, helping enable deeper due diligence and portfolio intelligence.
Key Capabilities
The server provides the following data access tools:
- get_all_funds(): Retrieve a complete list of all investors and funds.
- search_funds(tier, type, sortBy, sortDirection, limit, skip): Supports filtering funds by tier and type, as well as sorting by specified fields and pagination.
- get_fund_basic(fund_id): Retrieve basic metrics for a specified fund, such as tier, portfolio size, ROI, etc.
- get_fund_full(fund_id): Retrieve comprehensive metrics, including investment focus, recent rounds, and stages.
- get_fund_team(fund_id): Retrieve detailed team information, including roles and social links.
Technical Features
- Formatted output: All responses are returned in ASCII table format for easy reading in MCP clients.
- Asynchronous API calls: Uses httpx for efficient asynchronous HTTP requests.
- Environment configuration: Manages the API key via a .env file combined with dotenv.
- Error handling: Gracefully handles API errors and missing data.
Usage
Prerequisites
- uv: Python package and virtual environment manager (recommended for dependency management).
- A Cryptorank API key (obtain by registering with Cryptorank).
Installation Steps
- Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/kukapay/crypto-funds-mcp.git cd crypto-funds-mcp
- Install dependencies: uv sync
- Create a .env file in the root directory and add the API key: CRYPTORANK_API_KEY=your_api_key_here
Install to Claude Desktop
Install the server as a Claude Desktop application: uv run mcp install main.py --name "Crypto Funds"
Configuration file reference: { "mcpServers": { "Crypto Funds": { "command": "uv", "args": ["--directory", "/path/to/crypto-funds-mcp", "run", "main.py"], "env": { "CRYPTORANK_API_KEY": "cryptorank_api_key" } } } } Please replace /path/to/crypto-funds-mcp with the actual installation path, and replace cryptorank_api_key with your Cryptorank API key.
Tool Usage Examples
The following are examples for each tool, including natural language prompts, the corresponding tool calls, and example results (in ASCII table format). Actual results depend on the Cryptorank API key and current data.
- Display a complete list of all cryptocurrency investors and funds.
- Search Tier 1 Venture funds, sort by retail ROI in descending order, and display the top 100 results.
- Retrieve basic metrics for the fund with ID 1, such as tier, portfolio, and ROI.
- Provide comprehensive data and investment details for the fund with ID 2.
- Who are the team members of the fund with ID 3? Include their roles and social links.
