About this tool

Endor is a command-line tool whose goal is to provide instant, private, sandboxed runtime environments for common services anywhere Node is installed. Users can safely run a variety of servers such as MariaDB and PostgreSQL in seconds, without installing any additional components, and everything runs locally, making it suitable for AI agents and users seeking efficiency.

Main capabilities and features:

  • Supports running services such as MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Memcached, Alpine, and Valkey as preconfigured applications in isolated sandboxes.
  • Each service runs in a temporary, isolated virtual machine, exposing only the application port.
  • After exiting Endor with CTRL+C, everything disappears and no traces are left on the system.
  • Provides an MCP (Model Context Protocol) mode, allowing AI tools (such as agents and IDEs) to start and use these services. AI agents can safely start database servers or key-value stores as part of their capabilities.
  • Optional experimental full-network mode, allowing a fully functional Alpine Linux machine to be run.

Usage:

  • Run a service: enter endor run mariadb to start the MariaDB database.
  • Provide capabilities for AI agents:Claude Code To run a Valkey instance, execute endor mcp.
  • You can also use npx to run services without installing the CLI.
  • Endor connects to AI agents through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), can be run directly with npx , and provides configuration guides to adapt to different agent tools.

Use cases:

  • Scenarios that require quickly starting a database or KV store for development, testing, or demonstrations.
  • Scenarios where AI agents and IDEs need to temporarily start services (such as MariaDB and Valkey) in a secure sandbox.
  • Requirements for temporary service environments that avoid polluting the local machine and can be discarded after use.

Limitations and notes:

  • Using Endor requires accepting its End User License Agreement (EULA).
  • Full-network mode is an experimental feature and is not enabled by default.
  • More details such as charging, pricing, and the complete list of specifically supported applications are not yet available in the official materials.
