Purpose
Synter MCP Server is an open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to let AI agents read and run advertising accounts. Users can create campaigns, adjust budgets, pause underperforming ads, generate creative assets, and pull performance data through natural conversation.
Main Capabilities
- Covers 16 advertising platforms: Google Ads, Microsoft Ads (Bing), Meta (Facebook and Instagram), LinkedIn Ads, X (Twitter) Ads, Reddit Ads, TikTok Ads, Snapchat Ads, Pinterest Ads, Spotify Ads, Amazon Ads (Sponsored Products, Brands, and Display), Amazon DSP, The Trade Desk, OpenAI Ads (ChatGPT), Display & Video 360, StackAdapt.
- Supports full campaign creation on most platforms. Display & Video 360 and StackAdapt support write operations (pausing, budget and line item updates, audience uploads) but not campaign creation. A few retail media networks are connected for reporting only.
- Capabilities include: campaign management, performance and analytics, keywords and targeting, conversion tracking, creative generation.
- Compatible with MCP clients such as Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, Amp, and VS Code.
- The hosted server exposes the full hosted toolset, while the npx package provides typed tools for common operations and access to the full catalog of 140+ Synter tools via run_tool.
How to Use
Hosted installation (browser login)
The hosted server is located at https://mcp.synterai.com . Add it to your client and log in via the browser on first use (OAuth, supporting dynamic client registration and PKCE, compliant with the MCP authorization specification). No need to copy an API key, and no local installation required. Registration is self-service: sign up at synterai.com/sign-up, connect your advertising accounts, and you can start using it.
Quick trial (no credentials required): run npx @synterai/mcp-server --demo(or set SYNTER_DEMO=true) to explore campaigns, view performance metrics, and simulate changes using high-fidelity sandbox data, with no account or API key required.
Client configuration examples:
- Cursor: use
cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=synter-ads&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL21jcC5zeW50ZXJhaS5jb20ifQ== - VS Code: use
vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22synter-ads%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fmcp.synterai.com%22%7D - Claude.ai / ChatGPT: add a custom connector with the URL https://mcp.synterai.com and log in as prompted.
Local stdio (npx) / API-key fallback
Suitable for scenarios where the client only supports stdio, or headless runs cannot complete browser login.
- Get an API Key: sign up at synterai.com/sign-up. An API key is created automatically, and you can view it or create more in Developer Settings.
- Configure your AI client, for example add to
~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.jsonfor Claude Desktop; add to.cursor/mcp.jsonin the project for Cursor; add tocline_mcp_settings.jsonfor VS Code / Cline; add to~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.jsonfor Windsurf; add to.amp/settings.json. - Restart the client and start a conversation.
HTTP clients that need headers instead of OAuth (n8n, Zapier, scripts, etc.) can use headers; headers are optional, browser OAuth is the default method, and any MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP transport can be used.
Plugin method (Claude Code / Claude Desktop)
This package is the raw MCP server. If you use Claude Code or Claude Desktop, the Synter plugin provides ready-made skills on top of the same server (/synter:launch, /synter:audience, /synter:optimize, etc.), specialized agents, and pre-spend approval safety hooks, along with a headless Claude Agent SDK runner for automation.
Use cases
Suitable for advertisers, marketing teams, and developers who want to manage multi-platform ad campaigns in natural language through AI agents, including operations such as creating campaigns, viewing performance, adjusting budgets, adding negative keywords, generating display ad creatives, and connecting ad accounts.
Connecting ad accounts: At synterai.com/settings/credentials, click Connect next to each platform. After completing the OAuth flow, the agent can manage that platform.
Limitations and security
- The only official packages are @synterai/mcp-server, @synterai/sdk-js, PyPI synter, crates.io synter, and Maven ai.syntermedia:synter-sdk. @iflow-mcp/* copies are unofficial and outdated.
- Destructive tools are flagged, and MCP clients will ask before running them.
- The client-side read-only flag (
--read-only/SYNTER_READ_ONLY=true) will completely unregister change-type tools from the tool manifest and block them locally. - Server-side write gate: even if an agent attempts an unauthorized change, the Synter central gateway will reject change calls from unverified/cardless callers with 402 PAYMENT_METHOD_REQUIRED.
- Privacy: customer ad credentials, performance metrics, conversion payloads, and search terms are not used by Synter or its subprocessors to train or fine-tune models; ad platform OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest with AES-256 and KMS, and tokens are not passed into LLM prompt context; 100% of tool executions log caller identity, IP, tool name, latency, and cost; structured schemas strictly validate all parameters before dispatch.
- Synter Ångström verifies, for every change and observation, by probing live provider APIs whether the valid state, serviceability (RUNNABLE), delivery status, and constraints match the requested intent.
- Pricing: the free diagnostic read layer ($0.00 / 0 credits) can connect ad accounts, view campaigns, pull metrics, and audit trails without a credit card. Paid campaign execution is billed through subscription tiers: SOLO $20/month ($200/year), including $20.00 in claimable monthly credits; SCALE $500/month ($5,000/year), including $500.00 in claimable monthly credits; CUSTOM is a sales-led enterprise contract with dedicated capacity.
- The hosted server uses browser OAuth and requires no environment variables; environment variables apply only to the local npx server.
