Purpose: This is the MCP server provided by sthan.io, which connects US address validation, address parsing, autocomplete, latitude/longitude geocoding, reverse geocoding, and IPv4/IPv6 location capabilities to AI assistants, suitable for MCP-compatible clients such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, and Windsurf. It provides 8 tools in total, uses TypeScript, and uses stdio transport.
Main capabilities: Address validation is based on official postal records rather than heuristic rules, returning delivery point validation (DPV), ZIP+4, and residential/commercial flags; autocomplete provides input-suggestion-level responses in under 100 milliseconds for addresses, cities, and postal codes; forward geocoding returns accuracy classifications (rooftop/interpolated/centroid/approximate) and confidence scores; IP location returns country, region, city, coordinates, postal code, time zone and local time, flag, currency, telephone code, network (ASN, ISP, organization), mobile/proxy/hosting flags, reverse DNS, and confidence score.
How to use: First register at sthan.io and get a free API key from the dashboard (no credit card required). For Claude Desktop, you can download sthan.mcpb, double-click to install, and enter the key; VS Code has an install button; for Cursor, after installation, replace the placeholder with the key in settings; for Claude Code, you can use the command: claude mcp add sthan -e STHAN_API_KEY=your_key_here -- npx -y @sthan/mcp-server, and add --scope user to use it globally. You can also manually edit configuration files: for Claude Desktop, edit claude_desktop_config.json; for Cursor, edit ~/.cursor/mcp.json or the project's .cursor/mcp.json; for Windsurf, edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json; for VS Code, create .vscode/mcp.json. After installation, you can ask questions naturally, for example "Is 123 Main St, New York, NY 10001 a real deliverable address?" "Parse the address apt 2b 500 broadway new york ny" "What are the coordinates of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, Washington DC?" "Where is IP 8.8.8.8?".
Limitations: Most calls return in 1 to 3 seconds, but address validation and parsing can take up to about 2 minutes when real-time postal queries are required. The server waits at most 150 seconds for these two tools. If the client times out early, increase the tool timeout (for example, set MCP_TOOL_TIMEOUT=150000 in Claude Code). When using npx, you must keep -y; on Windows, it is recommended to run it in PowerShell or Command Prompt. If spawn npx ENOENT occurs, you can switch to "command": "cmd" and "args": ["/c", "npx", "-y", "@sthan/mcp-server"]. Pricing, specific free quotas, and more environment variable details are not provided here; you can refer to sthan.io/pricing/united-states and sthan.io/docs.
