About this tool

Purpose

koreanpulse is an MCP server for connecting first-hand South Korean stock market data to AI assistants, aimed at builders of AI / trading agents on clients such as Claude Desktop, Cursor, ChatGPT, the OpenAI Responses API, and FastMCP. The problem it solves is the lack of English-language coverage of South Korean disclosures (DART 전자공시): the original Korean filings are clear and unambiguous, but English coverage is often delayed by hours or entirely absent. The tool translates, tags, and filters first-hand South Korean disclosure data and outputs it in English. Its purpose is data and intelligence; it does not constitute buy or sell advice and does not execute any trades.

Main capabilities

  • Query DART electronic disclosures for any KOSPI / KOSDAQ / KONEX / KRX ticker.
  • 5% rule shareholding disclosures, tagged against a maintained whitelist: including South Korean activist investors (KCGI, Align Partners, Truston Asset, Anda Asset, Cha Partners, VIP Asset, Life Asset, Platform Partners, Must Asset Management, Dalton Investments, Flashlight Capital Partners, Oasis Management, Palliser Capital, Whitebox Advisors, City of London Investment Management, and ValueAct and Elliott as filed in South Korea) and global foreign holders (BlackRock, Vanguard, State Street, Fidelity, Capital Group, T. Rowe Price, Wellington, Matthews Asia, Templeton, Aberdeen, Schroders, Norges Bank, GIC, Temasek, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Citadel, Millennium, Bridgewater).
  • South Korean industry news, covering 16 sectors: semiconductors, shipbuilding, batteries, biotech, defense, automotive, electric vehicles, charging, AI, steel, petrochemicals, construction, fintech, gaming, e-commerce, telecommunications, energy; sources include 전자신문, 한국경제, The Korea Herald (English-native), 지디넷코리아.
  • All content offers on-demand English translation, cached server-side.
  • The koreanpulse_about tool can return the tool catalog and example queries, for agent-side capability discovery.

How to use

Three connection modes:

  1. Hosted remote MCP:https://mcp.koreanpulse.dev/mcp,用于 ChatGPT / Claude.ai / OpenAI Responses API custom connector. Add it in Claude.ai Settings → Connectors, or in the OpenAI Responses API write tools=[{type: "mcp", server_url": "https://mcp.koreanpulse.dev/mcp"}]。只读,仅呈现披露文件,不执行交易,不提供投资建议。
  2. pip install koreanpulse plus four lines of configuration, for stdio mode in Claude Desktop / Cursor.
  3. Smithery marketplace listing, for Smithery CLI users.

Among the 7 published MCP tools, the free tier (no license_key required, no registration required) provides the raw DART and RSS data surface; the paid tier (Solo from $29/month, license_key required) unlocks the whitelist annotation tool. Whitelist annotation is work that requires a Korean speaker to complete manually. Paid tools return a prompt when a license is missing, explaining that a license key is required; tool responses do not contain checkout links.

Subscriptions are handled through Polar (Polar is the sole biller and Merchant of Record), with checkout offered by tier, and license keys emailed by the webhook worker on subscription.created. The first payment has a 30-day refund window. Enterprise / SLA requires contact, and pricing has not been published.

Self-hosting: the source code is AGPL-3.0, and self-hosters can run the MCP server locally using their own DART and OpenAI keys; see docs/SELF_HOSTING.md for installation and key wiring. KOREANPULSE_CACHE_MODE can also be used to switch between OSS self-hosting and Cloud.

When to use it

Suitable for developers integrating first-hand Korean stock data into an existing Claude Desktop / Cursor / FastMCP agent, following the same MCP shape used for their US data, with no need to switch clients. Typical usage is asking whether there is new disclosure for a stock of interest, such as a 5% rule filing or a DART event. The free daily snapshot is at /today, requires no login or API key, and is published once each business day.

Limitations

  • Currently pre-alpha (v0.1.13); 433 tests passed, 1 skipped.
  • Watchlist polling and alert push are in Beta planning and not yet available; what is currently available is on-demand querying. The D1 schema and alert push primitives have been released; what is missing is the cron loop.
  • Tier-based limits such as number of watchlists, number of alert channels, profile retention window, and number of seats are not yet enforced and are paperlimits; most tier differences are still on the roadmap. Early subscribers retain their signup price after that feature launches.
  • DART has a limit of 40,000 calls/day per API key (verified 2026-05), with a server-side soft limit of 32,000 calls/day (80%), overridable with the DART_DAILY_QUOTA environment variable; the hard ceiling per key is about 30,000 MAU, and exceeding it requires a second key (a separate 사업자등록번호).
  • Another 4 tools are planned: digest_analyst_reports, get_ma_pipeline, track_government_policy, summarize_korean_earnings_call (see docs/SPEC.md).
  • Compared with other Korean data MCP servers, other projects are more suitable if raw KRX OHLCV or Korean financial statement tables are needed.

Infrastructure

The MCP server is FastMCP (Python) and runs on the user's machine via stdio. The Cloud layer includes the Cache Worker (Cloudflare Workers + KV, holds the OpenAI key, front global translation cache, rate limits by license check), Daily Worker (Cron-driven, builds the /today dashboard at 16:30 KST on business days), and Webhook Worker (Cloudflare Worker + D1, handles Polar billing events and /v1/validate). Reuses agentprod's Throttle, Retry, and CostTracker.
