AllRatesToday MCP Server (@allratestoday/mcp-server) is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides real-time data from the foreign exchange market to AI assistants. It enables Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible client to call the AllRatesToday API to obtain real-time currency exchange rates, historical data, and multi-currency queries. After installation, the assistant can answer questions such as "What is the current USD to EUR exchange rate?" "Show the trend of GBP/JPY over the past 30 days" "Convert 250 US dollars to Canadian dollars at the real exchange rate" "Compare the US dollar with the euro, British pound, and Japanese yen at the same time."
Main capabilities:
- Real-time mid-market rates: covering 150+ ISO 4217 currencies, refreshed approximately every 60 seconds.
- Built-in historical series: supports 1d / 7d / 30d / 1y time windows, with reasonable granularity for each period.
- Eight dedicated tools: get_exchange_rate, get_historical_rates, get_rates_authenticated, list_currencies, list_central_banks, get_official_rates, get_reference_rate, request_trial_key.
- Broad compatibility: uses stdio transport, MCP 1.x, supports Claude Code, Cursor, Claude Desktop, Windsurf, or any generic MCP host.
- Can run without a key: can be installed and answer based on the ECB open reference table without configuration; a free key unlocks real-time rates for 160+ currencies.
- Clear data sources: keyless answers state the rates used and their publication time; API errors are mapped to clear, actionable messages.
- Privacy protection: only request parameters and the API key are sent to allratestoday.com; conversation context is not sent.
Usage: It can be run with zero installation via npx, or by using a hosted endpoint (https://allratestoday.com/api/mcp)无需安装。每个客户端有各自的配置文件(如 Claude Code uses the built-in CLI, Cursor edits ~/.cursor/mcp.json, Claude Desktop edits the corresponding configuration file, Windsurf edits ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json). Generic stdio MCP clients use the npx startup command and set the ALLRATES_API_KEY environment variable. There is also a Claude Code plugin that bundles two MCP servers, two skills, and five slash commands (/rate, /convert, /official-rate, /fx-history, /add-currency-support).
Use cases:
- AI assistant interactions that require real-time exchange rates, historical trends, and multi-currency conversion.
- Scenarios that require fixed exchange rates published by official central banks or tax authorities for invoices, VAT, tax filings, customs, transfer pricing, and audits.
- Scenarios that require a daily fixed reference rate (Daily Reference Rate) for reports, indices, or research series.
Limitations:
- All returned rates are mid-market rates, refreshed approximately every 60 seconds, and are not the official rates that tax authorities or auditors may require.
- get_historical_rates and get_rates_authenticated require ALLRATES_API_KEY; the other six tools can be used without a key.
- Requires Node >=18; there is currently no standalone binary.
- A free key must be obtained by registering at allratestoday.com/register and verifying the email, and is in the format art_live_xxxxx.
- The free tier is suitable for development and personal use; heavy use or production environments should consider a paid plan, with specific quotas on the pricing page.
- Project structure, contribution guidelines, error reference, etc. are detailed in the GitHub repository.
