About this tool

coda-mcp is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Coda, acting as a bridge for interacting with the Coda API. It allows MCP clients (such as AI assistants) to perform operations on Coda pages. This project is community-built and is not developed or maintained by Coda.

Main capabilities: The server exposes the following tools to MCP clients: coda_list_documents lists all documents accessible to the user; coda_list_pages lists all pages in the configured Coda document, with pagination support; coda_create_page creates a new page in the document, optionally as a child page under a specified parent page, and populates it with initial Markdown content; coda_get_page_content gets the content of a specified page (by ID or name) in Markdown form; coda_replace_page_content replaces the content of a specified page with new Markdown content; coda_append_page_content appends new Markdown content to the end of a specified page; coda_duplicate_page duplicates an existing page under a new name; coda_rename_page renames an existing page; coda_peek_page views the beginning of a page and returns a limited number of lines; coda_resolve_link resolves metadata from a browser link pointing to a Coda object; coda_list_tables lists tables in a document; coda_list_columns lists columns in a table; coda_list_rows lists rows in a table, with optional filtering and sorting; coda_get_row gets a single row from a table; coda_upsert_rows inserts or updates rows in a table; coda_update_row updates a single row in a table; coda_delete_row deletes a single row in a table; coda_delete_rows deletes multiple rows in a table; coda_push_button pushes a button column on a row in a table.

Usage: This MCP server can be added to clients such as Cursor and Claude Desktop. The required environment variable is API_KEY: your Coda API key, which can be generated in your Coda account settings. This MCP server is also available via Docker.

Prerequisites for local build: Node.js and pnpm. Steps: clone the repository (git clone <repository-url>, cd coda-mcp); install dependencies (pnpm install); build the project (pnpm build), which compiles the TypeScript code into JavaScript in the dist/ directory.

Running the server: The MCP server communicates via standard input/output (stdio). At runtime, set the environment variable and run the compiled JavaScript file dist/index.js.

Use cases: Scenarios that require reading, writing, organizing, and managing Coda documents, pages, and table data in an AI assistant or MCP client.

Limitations: The project is community-built and is not officially developed or maintained by Coda; you must provide your own Coda API key; other information such as pricing and scope of platform support is not provided.
