About this tool

Fabric is an open-source framework designed to augment human capabilities with AI. It provides a modular system that solves specific problems through crowdsourced AI prompts (called Patterns), which can be used anywhere.

Purpose

The core goal of Fabric is to solve the problem of the huge number of AI prompts being difficult to discover, manage, and integrate. By organizing real-world tasks into prompt units (Patterns), it helps people create, collect, and organize the most important AI solutions and integrate them into daily life and work.

Main Capabilities

  • Organize prompts by real-world tasks: Fabric provides a variety of Patterns covering life and work, such as extracting the most interesting parts from YouTube videos and podcasts, writing articles in your own voice, summarizing obscure academic papers, creating matching AI art prompts for writing, rating content quality, getting summaries of lengthy content, explaining code, turning poor documentation into usable documentation, creating social media posts from any content input, and more.
  • Support for multiple AI providers: including OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Claude Code, Ollama (local models), OpenAI Codex, Azure AI Gateway, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Digital Ocean GenAI, GitHub Models, Venice AI, Abacus, Z AI, and more.
  • Command-line interface: Fabric itself can be used as a CLI and supports processing input through Patterns.
  • REST API server: Provides a REST API and Swagger/OpenAPI documentation for easy integration.
  • Custom Patterns: Supports users in creating custom Patterns, which can be used across different tools.
  • Auxiliary applications: Includes tools such as to_pdf, code2context, generate_changelog, and more.
  • Multilingual support: Fully internationalized, supporting multiple languages such as English, Arabic, Chinese, and more.

How to Use

Installation: A one-line command installation is recommended, and manual binary download, package managers (macOS Homebrew, Arch Linux AUR, Windows Winget/Scoop), building from source, Docker, and other methods are also supported. Configuration: Run fabric --setup to configure an AI provider, use fabric --listvendors to view available providers. Usage: Use Patterns through the command line, for example fabric --pattern summarize for summarization. Aliases can be set to simplify operations. Supports environment variables, per-Pattern model mapping, and more. Extension: Supports a REST API server, Ollama-compatible mode, Shell completion (Zsh, Bash, Fish), and more.

Applicable Scenarios

Fabric is suitable for individuals and teams that need to frequently use AI for tasks such as processing text, summarizing content, generating articles, and analyzing information, and is especially suitable for command-line users and developers.
