Purpose
plantuml_web is a PlantUML front-end web project built with NiceGUI, whose main purpose is to allow users to deploy and use PlantUML in an intranet environment. It is both a NiceGUI demonstration project and, on that basis, adds an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that exposes PlantUML functionality for use by AI assistants.
Main Capabilities
- Interactive PlantUML editor with live preview.
- Supports saving and loading diagrams.
- Responsive interface with resizable panels.
- Can generate PlantUML diagrams in SVG or PNG format.
- Can validate PlantUML code and return detailed error information.
- Includes an MCP server that provides the following MCP tools:
- generate_plantuml_image: Generates a diagram image based on PlantUML code.
- validate_plantuml_syntax: Validates PlantUML code and returns the validation result.
- The built-in PlantUML jar version is plantuml-1.2025.3.jar.
Usage
The startup script starts the following services at the same time:
- PlantUML server: port 8000
- Web interface: port 8080
- MCP server: port 8765
After startup, you can access:
- Web interface:http://127.0.0.1:8080
- MCP server:http://127.0.0.1:8765/sse
Connect to the MCP server (using Claude Desktop as an example):
- Open Claude Desktop.
- Go to Settings > MCP Servers.
- Add a new server, and for the URL enter http://localhost:8765/sse。
- Restart Claude Desktop.
The project also provides a test client for verifying the functionality of the MCP server.
Applicable Scenarios
- When PlantUML diagramming tools need to be deployed in environments such as corporate intranets where the public internet cannot be accessed.
- When you want an AI assistant (through an MCP client, such as Claude Desktop) to call PlantUML to generate or validate diagrams.
- For developers who need a web-based PlantUML editor with live preview and code validation features.
