Plantrip MCP Server is an MCP (Model Context Protocol)-based server used to connect AI assistants such as Claude to Plantrip's travel planning tools. Through it, AI assistants can invoke Plantrip's capabilities to create itineraries, generate packing lists, get weather insights, estimate travel costs, and more.
Purpose
The server is designed to connect Plantrip's travel planning services to AI clients that support MCP (such as Claude), allowing users to complete travel planning-related tasks in natural language and generate the results as shareable pages.
Main Capabilities
- Create itineraries: Generate detailed day-by-day travel plans including activities, costs, and locations.
- Packing lists: Generate AI-powered packing lists based on destination, weather, and activities.
- Weather insights: Provide detailed climate information and weather patterns.
- Cost estimates: Provide budget breakdowns for accommodation, dining, transportation, and activities.
- Travel expert: Answer any travel question and get expert answers.
- Travel guides: Search Plantrip's library of destination guides.

How to Use
- Get an API key: Visit plantrip.io/developers, log in (free, no subscription required), and create a new API key.
- Configure Claude Desktop: Add the server configuration to the Claude Desktop configuration file. macOS path: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json Windows path: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
- Restart Claude Desktop: Quit and reopen it to load the server.
For Claude Code, you can add the configuration in the project's .mcp.json.
After configuration is complete, you can ask Claude, for example:
- “Create a 5-day itinerary for Tokyo focused on food and culture”
- “What should I pack for a hiking trip to Patagonia in March?”
- “What's the weather like in Bali in August?”
- “How much would a week in Iceland cost for 2 people?”
- “What are the visa requirements for US citizens visiting Vietnam?”
Environment Variables and Direct API Access
In addition to the MCP server, you can also use the Plantrip API directly. The complete API documentation is available at plantrip.io/developers. The rate limit is 60 requests per minute and 10,000 requests per day.

Suitable for users who need to use an AI assistant to quickly create travel plans, prepare luggage, learn about destination weather and budgets, and look up travel guides or tour information.
Limitations
A Plantrip API key is required before use; registration is free and no subscription is required. API calls are subject to rate limits (60 per minute, 10,000 per day). Other feature details are not yet provided.
