Recompressor is a free online image compression tool that supports three formats, PNG, JPG, and SVG, requires no installation, and is used directly in the browser.
Purpose: To help users find the ideal balance between file size and image quality, suitable for scenarios where the image volume needs to be reduced while preserving image quality as much as possible.
Main capabilities:
- Supports selecting one or multiple images at a time for processing.
- Tries multiple recompression settings for each image and compares them with the original image, generating a comparison chart of file size and quality, while also providing a recommendation.
- Provides a complete preview of results, and users can freely download any result they like, all for free.
- PNG: Performs optimal recompression with minimal visual impact by reducing the number of colors.
- JPG: Uses MozJPEG compression, optimizing images through trellis quantization, chroma subsampling, and progressive scan optimization.
- SVG: Reduces unnecessary tags, comments, and attributes, converts tag and path data into more simplified equivalents, reduces the numerical precision of path data, and selectively exports to SVGZ format.
- Provides two statistical metrics, RMSE (root mean square per-pixel recompression error) and MAX ERROR (maximum per-pixel error). The smaller the values, the more similar the compressed image is to the original image.
How to use: Users only need to select one or multiple images and hand them to Recompressor for processing. The tool automatically performs multiple recompressions and displays the comparison results. Users can then preview and download any result. The entire process is free and has no ads.
Privacy and security: All processing is performed in the browser's JavaScript, and images never leave the user's computer, so images are not uploaded.
Use cases: Users who need to compress PNG, JPG, and SVG images to reduce file size while also wanting to intuitively compare the differences in image quality and size under different compression settings.
Limitation: There is currently no available API.
