About this tool

mcp-server-runescape is a server based on MCP (Model Context Protocol) that provides tools for interacting with RuneScape (RS) and Old School RuneScape (OSRS) data. Its purpose is to enable AI clients, while playing RuneScape, to retrieve information directly from accurate data sources in order to answer related questions.

Main capabilities (tools):

  1. get_item_details: Retrieve comprehensive information about tradable items, including the current Grand Exchange price, price trends (24 hours, 30 days, 90 days, and 180 days), and item description (examine text).
  2. get_item_price_history: Retrieve an item's price history over the past 180 days, including the price on a given day (timestamp) and the average price on a given day (timestamp).
  3. get_player_hiscore: Retrieve a player's rankings and experience for each skill and activity, including experience values and activity scores.
  4. get_top_rankings: View the top players (up to 50) for a specific skill or activity, including scores (common to skills and activities).
  5. get_player_count: Retrieve the current number of online players for RuneScape and Old School RuneScape (real-time player count).
  6. get_rsuser_total: Retrieve the current number of accounts created that can access any form of RuneScape, including accounts created in FunOrb or a version of RuneScape, providing historical account creation data.

Usage: This MCP server can be used with various clients, such as Claude Desktop and Cursor. Node.js must be installed on the system before use. One way is to add the MCP server to the client configuration via the NPM package; another way is to clone the repository and install dependencies: yarn or npm install. Then, in the configuration for Claude Desktop or Cursor, enter something like the following: { "mcpServers" : { "mcp-server-runescape" : { "command" : " node " , "args" : [ " /Users/path/to/mcp-server-runescape/src/server.js " ] } } } Here, /path/to/mcp-server-runescape must be replaced with the actual installation path. Example configuration file locations: For Claude Desktop (mac), ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json; for Cursor, /Users/name/.cursor/mcp.json. After updating the configuration, restart Claude Desktop or Cursor for the changes to take effect. Optional: Run the debugger/inspector yarn dev or npm run build.

Use cases: While playing RuneScape or Old School RuneScape, use an AI client to query data such as item prices, price history, player rankings, skill experience, online player counts, and more. The example query category given in the materials is "item price history."

Limitations and notes: For consistency, the author tries to use only API endpoints that support both RS and OSRS data. Detailed API endpoint information can be found in the RS/Wiki API. No other limitations, fees, prices, or effectiveness information are provided in the materials.
