OpenMM MCP is an MCP server for AI agents, developed by QBT-Labs, designed to give AI real cryptocurrency trading capabilities. It exposes market data, account, trading, and strategy tools through any MCP client, supports market quotes, order placement, grid strategies, and portfolio management, and covers multiple exchanges (such as MEXC, Gate.io, Bitget, Kraken, Binance, Coinbase, OKX, etc.).
Main capabilities and tools: provides 15 tools, covering market data, order execution, grid strategies, and portfolio management. It supports AI agents in performing real trading operations, such as checking the BTC price, placing orders, starting grid strategies, and checking Cardano tokens, etc.
How to use: there are two usage modes. First, installation and configuration: through --setup the wizard writes the correct MCP configuration for clients (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf), containing only the socket path and storing no credentials. Then initialize the encrypted vault (located at ~/.openmm/vault.enc), set a password, generate or import a wallet, and optionally add exchange API keys. Then start the server openmm serve, enter the vault password, and the unified socket is located at /tmp/openmm.sock, where all MCP clients connect. Second, manual configuration: directly edit the configuration file, replace /path/to/openmm-mcp with the actual installation path, and make sure to use the full node path (to avoid nvm/PATH issues). Quick start without a vault: you can skip the vault and pass the API key directly in the env block.
Prerequisites: Node.js 20 or later.
Security properties: the vault uses AES-256-GCM encryption, and the password is entered only through an interactive terminal and never appears in configuration files, environment variables, or CLI flags; the socket permission is 0600 and serves as the authentication boundary; spending policies are enforced at the socket layer before private keys are touched; private keys never enter any MCP client process memory, and signing is completed within the openmm serve process via IPC.
Hosted server and x402 payments: you can connect to mcp.openmm.io, use public data without local installation, and pay per call with USDC on the Base network. The process is: the agent calls a tool → the server returns 402 Payment Required and the price → openmm serve signs an EIP-3009 authorization (gasless, no ETH required) → the server submits the on-chain payment and returns the data.
Use cases: suitable for developers who need to integrate real cryptocurrency trading, market monitoring, automated market making, and liquidity management for AI agents, especially for scenarios such as DeFi analysis and CEX/DEX trading strategy execution.
Limitations: the current material does not provide more detailed information such as fees, pricing, platforms, effects, or usage steps; some feature details may depend on the actual deployment configuration.
