Purpose
This MCP server is designed to integrate Netwrix Access Analyzer (NAA) with Claude Desktop, enabling users to query and analyze Active Directory and file system data collected by NAA through Claude's conversational interface. It serves as a bridge between Claude and the NAA backend SQL Server database.
Key Capabilities
- Automatically connects to the SQL Server database on startup.
- Supports dynamic exploration of the database schema.
- Allows execution of SQL queries to retrieve NAA data.
- Provides dedicated tools for NAA file system solutions (specific tool names are not listed in the materials).
- Currently supports Active Directory and file system solutions.
Usage
- Install Claude Desktop (download and install from https://claude.ai/download ).
- Clone the repository:
git clone https://github.com/netwrix/mcp-server-naa.git cd mcp-server-naa - Add the following uv configuration to the MCP configuration in Claude Desktop:
Note: Replace with the actual path and database credentials."NAA_AD": { "command": "/path/to/uv", "args": [ "run", "--with", "pyodbc", "fastmcp", "run", "/path/to/mcp-server-naa/run.py" ], "env": { "DB_SERVER": "HOST OR IP", "DB_NAME": "DATABASENAME", "DB_USER": "USERNAME", "DB_PASSWORD": "PASSWORD", "DB_USE_WINDOWS_AUTH": "FALSE|TRUE" } }
Dependencies
- Python 3.12 or later
- pyodbc 4.0.39 or later
- python-dotenv 1.0.0 or later
- ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server or later (must be installed on the system)
- A completed Netwrix Access Analyzer (NAA) file system or Active Directory scan is required
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for enterprise environments where Netwrix Access Analyzer has been deployed and scans have been completed, and where security or IT teams want to query AD or file system permission data through Claude Desktop in natural language for auditing, analysis, or troubleshooting.
Limitations
- Currently only supports Active Directory and file system solutions; other NAA features are not yet available.
- SQL Server and the ODBC driver must be installed and configured in advance.
- The corresponding NAA scan must be completed, otherwise there is no data to query.
- Details of the specific file system tools provided, supported operating systems, licensing information, etc. are not described in the materials.
Troubleshooting
- Connection issues: Check whether SQL Server is running and the network is reachable, whether the credentials are correct, whether the ODBC driver is installed, and review the logs.
- Claude Desktop integration issues: If the uv command cannot be found, use the full path (find it with which uv or where uv), restart Claude Desktop, and check the Claude logs.
